A brief explanation of generating the seven characteristics of purity. Practicing giving with pure objects of giving is practicing pure giving, practicing giving with pure morality is practicing pure giving, practicing giving with pure views is practicing pure giving, practicing giving with a pure mind is practicing pure giving, practicing giving with pure speech is practicing pure giving, practicing giving with pure knowledge is practicing pure giving, and practicing giving with pure defilements is called practicing pure giving. This is the second, distinguishing and showing the seven aspects of pure giving. Among them, giving not with unexamined objects, etc., is called pure objects of giving. Giving by completely eliminating faults is called pure morality. Not clinging to "I am the giver, the object of giving is mine," etc., is called pure view. Giving with a loving heart, etc., is called pure mind. Giving with a good complexion and speaking frankly, etc., is called pure speech. Giving with accurate knowledge of the name and nature of giving, etc., is called pure knowledge. Giving by completely abandoning defilements such as laziness, desire, hatred, and ignorance is called pure defilement. If a Bodhisattva's giving is endowed with these seven characteristics of purity, then the initial pure giving is completely accomplished, and the details should be understood as explained in the Yogacarabhumi-sastra. Furthermore, "From the vows of the Bodhisattvas," etc., it should be known that this is the third concluding part. Each of these seven characteristics can be divided into ten aspects, as stated in the Yogacarabhumi-sastra: "Furthermore, how does a Bodhisattva give, based on this giving

It should be understood that there are seven kinds of complete purification. Thus, the object of giving is completely pure, the discipline is completely pure, the view is completely pure, sentient beings are completely pure, speech is completely pure, wisdom is completely pure, and defilement is completely pure. All these complete purifications should also be understood as having ten aspects. Among them, what are the ten aspects of the complete purification of the object of giving? That is, the great giving, because it is numerous, various, and differentiated. Equal giving, because it is neither too much nor too little. Timely giving, because it is in accordance with the desired time. Abundant giving, because it is complete with colors and so on. Completely pure giving, because it is not mixed with impure things. Giving according to the Dharma, because it has no faults. Giving according to what is desired, because it becomes what the beggar desires. Beneficial giving, because it is encountered. Giving once and gradually, because it is considering the beggar. Giving without interruption, because it is uninterrupted. Just as it appears like this, the nature of each of the six, discipline, view, mind, speech, wisdom, and defilement, should also be understood as being divided into ten aspects, as shown in detail therein. Furthermore, being skilled in all the grounds of learning included in the vows of the Bodhisattvas, and being skilled in recovering from downfalls, from here onwards, the seven characteristics of the second discipline are shown. This can also be shown by explanation and conclusion. First, explaining the seven characteristics can also be divided into two: showing skill in two characteristics, and showing learning the five characteristics as they are. This is the first. The first is being skilled in all the grounds of learning of the discipline of vows, therefore,

In the Sutra of Liberation, it is said, "All the vows of discipline have been perfectly established." The second is being skilled in lifting oneself from downfalls, which is the Dharma of extracting oneself from faults and confessing. Therefore, in the Sutra of Complete Liberation, it is said, "Skilled in lifting oneself from downfalls." The profound intention in the Sutra of Liberation states, "Free from the Dharma of faults." Possessing constant discipline, possessing stable discipline, possessing constant discriminating discipline, possessing constant entering discipline, and having perfectly taken up all the bases of training and practicing, this shows the second, which is to practice correctly the five characteristics. The five characteristics are: possessing constant discipline, possessing stable discipline, possessing constant discriminating discipline, possessing constant entering discipline, and having perfectly taken up the bases of training and practicing. These five characteristics are shown in order from the Yogacarabhumi. Therefore, in the Summary of Explanation, it says, "How is one with definite discipline? It is because one does not abandon the bases of training." Furthermore, in the chapter on discipline, it says, "One with definite discipline is one who does not abandon training as long as life lasts." In the Explanation, it says, "As it is said, how is one with stable discipline in the world? It is because one does not destroy the bases of training." The chapter on discipline shows, "One with discipline is one who is not overwhelmed by gain, respect, the attacks of others, afflictions, and near afflictions, and cannot be taken away." In the Summary of Explanation, it says, "How is one with constant discriminating discipline? It is because one does not interrupt the discipline of training." "How is one with entering discipline? Even if broken, one restores it." "How does one correctly take up and practice the six bases of training? It is because one protects all the trainings."
