Furthermore, it is shown that one takes birth correctly in order to protect all sentient beings. Therefore, the Sutra Taught by the Noble Vimalakirti states that bodhisattvas enter samsara for the sake of sentient beings. Fourth, it is for the sake of oneself completely eliminating afflictions and also eliminating the afflictions of others. Thus, a bodhisattva abiding in a ground eliminates the afflictions of others in order to abandon afflictions and the obscuration of knowledge. If one is endowed with afflictions, one cannot eliminate those of others. Therefore, the Sutra Taught by the Noble Vimalakirti states, "If one cannot save oneself from illness, how can one completely save others?" Furthermore, it states in that very text, "It is impossible for one who is bound to liberate others from bondage. It is possible for one who is unbound to liberate others from bondage." The commentary on the Noble Ten Grounds also states this. Thus, when it is said to be "especially superior," what kind of birth is meant? It is said that it refers to the five aspects, including the birth that completely pacifies the harms mentioned above, but there is no contradiction in meaning. The Treatise Ornament of the Sutras states that, in brief, there are four types of births of a bodhisattva. Therefore, it states in that very text, "The verses that distinguish the four types of births of a bodhisattva are: the power of karma and the power of aspiration, the power of samadhi and the power of clairvoyance. Relying on these four powers, bodhisattvas take birth." It appears in this way. In the commentary on this, it states, "Among these four types of births, one who has mastery over the power of karma takes birth as one wishes. Taking birth through the power of aspiration is like this: a bodhisattva who has entered a great ground takes birth as an animal or other being in order to completely ripen others through the power of aspiration. Taking birth through the power of samadhi is like this: a bodhisattva who has mastery over samadhi."
