Each has been explained as having four aspects of meaning. Among them, the four aspects associated with pride, the place of manifest pride, are as follows: associated with the five aggregates of clinging. The cause of pride is as follows: the latent tendencies of pride. The nature of pride is as follows: a haughty mind. The functional capacity of pride is as follows: generating karma, maturation, and so forth from the cause of pride, which is a haughty mind. The phrase "however many sentient beings" indicates the place of pride. The phrase "possessing manifest pride" indicates the cause of pride. The phrase "because they are possessed by manifest pride" indicates the nature of pride. The phrase "knowing that there is something that makes knowledge communicate" indicates the functional capacity of pride. The four aspects of non-pride, the place of non-pride, are as follows: the uninterrupted continuation of the five uncontaminated aggregates. The cause of non-pride is the faculty that makes all that is unknown known. The nature of non-pride is the faculty of complete knowledge. The functional capacity of non-pride is the faculty endowed with complete knowledge. The phrase "however many sentient beings" indicates the place of non-pride. The phrase "free from manifest pride" indicates the cause and nature of non-pride. In the Sutra of Definitive Explanation of Words, it says, "without manifest pride and not subject to manifest pride." In the Sutra Unraveling the Profound Meaning, it says, "free from self, free from pride." Therefore, in that sutra, both terms are mentioned completely, while in this sutra, only one term is mentioned because it is concise, and therefore only "free from manifest pride" is spoken. The phrase "knowing that there is something that makes knowledge communicate" indicates the functional capacity of non-pride. Then, the venerable Subhuti said to the Blessed One, "Blessed One, I think that in the realm of sentient beings, only a few sentient beings are free from manifest pride and can understand knowledge." From here onwards, it is the answer of the second, the noble Subhuti. This also has two aspects: speaking by command.

It is the answer to the later question, and the answer to the previous statement. This is the first, like this, bodhisattvas from the first ground and above, truly understand that everything is the same nature of Dharma, that is, the ultimate truth of emptiness, so they will not generate arrogance, because they are not two vehicles and ordinary beings, etc., so a few sentient beings are free from arrogance and need to convey knowledge, so it is said. So, how can the two vehicles understand and explain its nature to the bodhisattvas? The answer is, because of the blessing of the Buddha, they only roughly understand the common nature, but not thoroughly understand each one. Therefore, in the great chapter of the Prajnaparamita, from the chapter of the characteristics of the tongue, it is said that Subhuti's explanation of the Dharma to the bodhisattvas is the power of the Buddha. The venerable Subhuti explains the Dharma by the power of blessing. Then, one should also abandon attachment to the Dharma. If not abandoned, how can one explain? Because of the blessing, one believes and understands very much, and can also explain emptiness. If not, there will be the fault of not abandoning attachment to the Dharma. Therefore, it is said in the commentary of Prajnaparamita that the two vehicles have not yet realized the truth of emptiness. If the venerable Subhuti is a lower vehicle practitioner, how can he ask questions and reside in the pure Buddha land? Because of the blessing of the Buddha, he can reach the pure Buddha land, or he is the incarnation of the Buddha, not the real body, or in the impure Buddha land, there will be such statements and answers. World Honored One, I think that in the realm of sentient beings, there are countless, immeasurable, and unspeakable numbers of sentient beings who are arrogant, and in order to make them conquered by arrogance, it is necessary to convey knowledge.
