If one is liberated from the bondage of signs, then one will also be liberated from the bondage of bad destinies, and this can be called the elimination of all afflictions. As the Blessed One said: Beings are bound by the bondage of signs, and are also bound by bad destinies. By well cultivating the union of quiescence and insight, one will be liberated from both. Thus it is said. Sixteenth fascicle. At that time, the Blessed One said to Subhuti: Subhuti, from this point on, the fourth chapter all shows the nature of being completely of one taste. This is again divided into two types: Extensive explanation in single sentences, and brief indication in verses. Explanation in single sentences is also divided into three types: the Tathagata's statement, the noble Subhuti's answer, and the Blessed One's correct explanation. This is the Tathagata's statement. This is again divided into two types: stating the speaker in conjunction with time, and correctly showing the speaker himself. This is the first. At that time, does it refer to the time when the Blessed One proclaimed the nature of suchness as being of one taste, or to the time when the noble Subhuti made the request? The notes of the teacher True Awareness say that there are eleven situations at that time: when the Buddha dwells in the world, when the wheel of Dharma turns, when the continuous and gathering of disciples makes beings fully mature, when listening, thinking, and meditating, when liberation fully matures after planting the seeds, when correctly establishing one's own benefit, when establishing the meaning for destroying wrong views, when destroying the prison of samsara, and when the correct

"Subhuti" (善现,梵文:सुभूति,梵文罗马音:Subhūti,汉语字面意思:善现) is said to be from the lineage stories. When he was first born, he manifested a house, and his parents were amazed and spoke to the soothsayers. The soothsayers said, "This one who manifests emptiness is only virtuous and has no arising." Therefore, he is called "Subhuti." The teacher, Truthful Reality, in the mnemonic text of the Noble Diamond Cutter, said, "This is the Buddha of the Eastern World System, called Blue Wind. Here, he has shown an emanation image." When he grew up, he urged his parents to invite the Buddha, and in that way, they made great offerings. When he went to the Grove of Victory to escort the Blessed One, he attained the fruit of an Arhat. Some say that he was the son of a king named Pure Voice. Why did the Buddha only bestow teachings upon the venerable Subhuti in this assembly? Why did he not bestow teachings upon the other three assemblies and the Bodhisattva assemblies? The teacher, Truthful Reality, in his mnemonic text, said that there are three reasons why teachings were not bestowed upon the other assemblies. First, when the Wheel of Dharma was first turned, the monks had previously entered the path and served the Buddha, while the other assemblies entered later. Secondly, it has been a hundred years since they took full ordination.
