For example, like walking and sitting to eat. Whatever relies on something first and then arises later, it does not exist before arising. Therefore, saying "depending on and arising" is not a good combination. To this, others reply that it should be understood that there is no word "te" here. The so-called "depending on and arising," in the Pali (Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Roman transliteration, Chinese literal meaning) प्रतीत्यसमुत्पाद (pratītyasamutpāda, dependent origination), "प्र (pra, Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Roman transliteration, Chinese literal meaning)" means many. "इत्य (ityā, Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Roman transliteration, Chinese literal meaning)" refers to the meaning of destruction, decay, arising, non-abiding, and complete destruction. "सम (sama, Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Roman transliteration, Chinese literal meaning)" means gathering. It is explained like this: arising from the way these and those causes gather and decay is called "depending on and arising." If their answer is correct, then the statement "depending on the eye and form, eye consciousness arises" and so on is incorrect. Some others say that the word "te" in the saying "depending on and arising" should be understood as connecting this shore and the other shore. For example, like there is a mountain after crossing the river, and autumn comes after summer. Therefore, they say that "depending on the eye and form, eye consciousness arises" is merely connecting this shore and the other shore, and it is not the entity of cause and effect. If this is said, then the cause and condition of eye consciousness will become past. To this, the fault has already been pointed out in the "examination of gathering." Regarding the explanation of "depending on and arising" without distinction, what does the Blessed One say depends on and arises? Therefore, this answer is also incorrect. The word "te" has the meaning of cause, which has been explained before. It can also be seen in different authors, such as the world saying "after drinking ghee, there is strength," or "after seeing a lion, there is fear," and in the Mahabharata it is also said, "seeing Drona's son running away at an amazing speed, this is definitely a human act," just like "you made me very scared." Some people who cling to sound say that in different authors, "te" has the meaning of cause, which is what the former teachers said.

It is said to be like black and so on. It can also be seen in doing things in accordance with the times, such as sleeping with one's mouth open and sleeping with one's eyes rolled back. What is this? It is not that one sleeps with one's mouth open or one's eyes rolled back afterwards. If one used to sleep with one's mouth open or one's eyes rolled back, then that is not what is meant here. However, it should be understood that falling asleep itself is opening one's mouth and rolling one's eyes back. It can also be seen in doing things later, such as relying on the action of the drum to strike the drumstick, the drum is the first action, and then striking the drumstick is not. It is also not simultaneous, because the sound arises from the cause of the striking. In that way, I do not think that Panini, who says "this shore and that shore," is right. Why is "also" said? Because the world and Bharata and those who cling to sound, such as Jatisoṇa, do not follow this treatise either. Therefore, they must also definitely think so. When worldly people express themselves, they follow the Buddhists, but if they are not Vedic scholars, then where are the branches of the Vedas and the grammarians? The Buddhas do not abide in this, because it is done by the arrogant. If it is not so, then the arrangement of the rules of sound must also follow the Buddha. For the time being, those who cling to sound should be asked this: Is the arising of the state of Dharma obtained by itself or not? If it is said that it is obtained by itself, then because it is only arising, what is done to say that it is arising? If it is said that it has not obtained its own nature, then it does not exist at that time, because it does not exist, then how can it be established as the agent? Or, if it is to be examined that non-existence is also the agent, whatever is indicated earlier and then arises, it does not exist before arising, how can this argument be made? He should also be asked this: What is the meaning of arising? It is the meaning of birth. What is birth? What is done to say that it is the agent? If it is said that it is done to birth, then, if it is said that birth is the four births
