In order to fully ripen (beings) on the land of (Buddhahood), and in order to plant the root of virtue in all beings who have not planted the root of virtue, and to fully increase these roots of virtue, this is called true practice. Why do you increase it like that? Because it is to manifest the wisdom of all-knowing. What can be done by dedicating it like that? It is said to enable all beings to live closely, and so on. After attaining the wisdom of all-knowing oneself, one can live closely to all beings, and be able to completely liberate from suffering through the two vehicles, and be able to place them in the wisdom of all-knowing. Then, what is the inexhaustible ripening of beings by the Bodhisattva? It means what is the inexhaustible diligence that makes beings fully mature. To cut off "only this much" is limited, and what cannot be cut off like that is called inexhaustible. If I say, "In one day," etc., it means if I fully ripen all the beings belonging to the three thousand great thousand worlds in one day, and ripen them in the same way for two days, three days, etc., and in this way ripen the realm of beings for countless, immeasurable, inconceivable eons, but there are still those who have not ripened, then compared to those who have ripened, even one percent is not there, and there is not even a cause, even if you hear it, you are not afraid, this is called the inexhaustible diligence of fully ripening beings. Among them, one percent is taking one out of a hundred, and the following are also inferred in the same way. The number is the same, for example, "Snow Mountain" and "another one is the piercer" are said to be not mustard seeds of the same kind. A part is a part, and this is also the nature of the same kind, for example, the component of mountains is the top of the mountain, not the tip of the grass. Counting is also the same, for example, one cannot say that Mount Meru and Snow Mountain are mustard seeds. Only take examples like this.

For example, it is said, "Like an ox, dull." Just as one would say "not" to a bee. The term "cause" indicates that the ripened cannot tolerate the cause of the unripened. So, what is the inexhaustible accumulation of merit of a Bodhisattva? It means, what is the inexhaustible diligence in accumulating the accumulation of merit? What is the Dharma conch like? When the Tathagata teaches the Dharma, how the close assembly of listeners hears it, similarly, the beings dwelling beyond countless hundreds of thousands of world realms also hear the voice in the same way. So, what is the inexhaustible accumulation of wisdom of a Bodhisattva? It means, what is the inexhaustible diligence of a Bodhisattva in accumulating the accumulation of wisdom? The phrase "in a great trichiliocosm," and so forth, means that in a great trichiliocosm, however many beings there are, all of them will possess the wisdom of following with faith, and if there is one who possesses the wisdom of following with Dharma, then even if the wisdom of those who follow with faith is combined, it will not approach even one percent of the wisdom of the one who follows with Dharma, and even the cause will not approach it. The following should also be measured in the same way. Following with faith means not realizing through one's own knowledge, but following the noble path with faith, just as one has heard from others. Following with Dharma means having sharp faculties, not relying on others, conforming to the principles of the Dharma, and combining intellect with practice. The eighth is the stream-enterer, the first of the eight persons when counted downwards from an Arhat. A stream-enterer refers to one who has entered the stream of the path of Nirvana. Once-returner refers to one who has abandoned six or fewer of the afflictions to be abandoned by cultivation in the desire realm, because they will still take birth in this desire realm. Abandoning all nine afflictions means there is no cause to be born again in the desire realm.
