Knowing that the nature of arising is emptiness means knowing not to engage in actions that create the aggregate of suffering. Knowing that cessation is without characteristics is like the absence of characteristics in a rabbit's horn or a barren woman's child; the nature of cessation, nirvana, is also not a real entity, so it is known to be without characteristics such as birth and abiding. Knowing that the path is liberation means knowing that it liberates from the ocean of samsara. Knowing the precise distinctions of terms for all phenomena means being skilled in separately distinguishing and explaining the meanings of conditioned and unconditioned phenomena. Knowing that there is no mindfulness or mental engagement in the four close placements of mindfulness means knowing that body, feeling, mind, and phenomena are not real entities, so there is no mindfulness or mental engagement. Therein, not immediately holding in mind is knowing mindfulness. Not repeatedly engaging the mind later is not engaging the mind. The term 'in the right abandonments' refers to the four right abandonments: generating unarisen virtuous qualities, increasing those that have arisen, not generating unarisen sinful, non-virtuous qualities, and abandoning those that have arisen. Among these, generating unarisen virtuous qualities and increasing those that have arisen is the wisdom of engaging in virtue. Not generating unarisen sinful, non-virtuous qualities and abandoning those that have arisen is called the wisdom of engaging in non-virtue. The term 'in the legs of magical power' refers to aspiration, effort, mind, and investigation, which are the legs of magical power that make body and mind serviceable. Knowing engagement in the faculties means knowing that the five faculties, such as faith, see and realize the meaning of the Dharma. Knowing non-defeat in the powers means knowing that the five powers, such as faith, are by nature unconquerable by the path of faith and so on. Knowing that all phenomena are truly understood in the branches of enlightenment means knowing that the seven branches of enlightenment truly understand that all their phenomena are of the nature of all-pervading conduct. On the path, there is no going or coming.
