The words of the Dharma taught by the perfectly enlightened Buddha, to completely subdue the conduct of the Bodhisattva, will now be explained. He thinks like this: The words of the Dharma taught by the perfectly enlightened Buddha, to completely subdue the conduct of the Bodhisattva, even for the sake of a single word of the Dharma, if the three thousand great thousand world realms are filled with fire, starting from the Brahma world, I am willing to abandon myself. What more to say about abandoning myself in an ordinary pit of fire? Even if all the sufferings of sentient beings in hell and the lower realms befall me, if I can seek the Dharma, what more to say about being accompanied by human suffering? It is said after thinking like this. Hearing the words of the Dharma means completely hearing only the words of the Dharma in letters. Hearing verses means hearing the Dharma only through verses. Hearing the Dharma to completely subdue the conduct of the Bodhisattva means hearing the meaning. Now, what is the cause of complete subdual? It means completely having the nature of proper discrimination. Because he strives in this way, completely seeks the Dharma, and also has the nature of proper discrimination for the Dharma he has heard, so it is said. By practicing the Dharma that is in accordance with the Dharma, if one recognizes that one can obtain the Buddha's Dharma, one should do it without hesitation. Therefore, one should enter into meditation, formless absorption, immeasurables, and supernormal knowledge. But these are not the basis of extreme joy, so they are not completely afflicted. Because even after hearing these Dharmas, one must ascertain in one's own mind, dwell alone in a quiet place, and observe in this way: By practicing the Dharma that is in accordance with the Dharma, one should comprehend these Dharmas, which cannot be done solely by the actions of language. He considers this to be the cause of practicing the Dharma that is in accordance with the Dharma, being separated from those who desire enjoyment, separated from sinful and unwholesome Dharmas, having investigation and analysis, the joy and bliss arising from separation, cultivating and abiding in the first dhyana. His (the practitioner's) investigation and analysis

Having abandoned (desire), the inner being is completely purified, and the mind stream becomes one, without discrimination, without examination, with joy and happiness arising from samadhi, he cultivates and dwells in the second dhyana. Having abandoned attachment to joy, he abides in equanimity, possessing mindfulness and clear comprehension. He also experiences happiness with the body, and the noble ones say that whoever possesses mindfulness, abides in happiness, is in equanimity. He cultivates and dwells in the third dhyana, which is without joy. He abandons happiness and also abandons suffering, and the previous mental happiness and mental unhappiness also cease, therefore it is neither suffering nor happiness, possessing the completely pure mindfulness of equanimity, he cultivates and dwells in the fourth dhyana. He completely transcends all perceptions of form, the perceptions of resistance cease, and not attending to various perceptions, thinking "space is infinite," he cultivates and dwells in the sphere of infinite space. He completely transcends all the sphere of infinite space, thinking "consciousness is infinite," he cultivates and dwells in the sphere of infinite consciousness. He completely transcends all the sphere of infinite consciousness, thinking "there is nothing at all," he cultivates and dwells in the sphere of nothingness. He completely transcends all the sphere of nothingness, thinking "neither perception nor non-perception," he cultivates and dwells in the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception. Apart from cultivating the Dharma that is in accordance with the Dharma, that is not a place for the basis of excellent virtue. Therefore, with a mind of loving-kindness, he becomes vast and immeasurable, without hatred, without competition, without obstruction, without harm, universally pervading all, the world is filled with the realm of Dharma, the sky's boundary reaches all the worlds, all are filled and cultivated, and he abides in it. Similarly, with a mind of compassion, and with a mind of joy, and with a mind of equanimity, vast and immeasurable, without hatred, without competition, without obstruction, without harm, universally pervading all, the world is filled with the realm of Dharma.
