They are led to the hells with land. They are led to the birthplace of animals. They are led to the world of Yama, so it is said. The result that is similar to the cause, even if born among humans, has two forms each. Then, if even born among humans, two fully ripened results will manifest, namely short life and becoming prone to many diseases, which is the result of killing. Having little enjoyment and turning into common enjoyment, which is the result of taking what is not given. Servants being unreliable and turning into a wife with rivals, which is the result of sexual misconduct. Receiving many slanders and being deceived by others, which is the result of speaking falsehoods. Servants being discordant and turning into bad servants, which is the result of divisive speech. Hearing unpleasant sounds and turning into words of strife, which is the result of harsh speech. Not being words that are worthy of being taken and turning into uncertain boasting, which is the result of idle chatter. Not knowing contentment and becoming greatly desirous, which is the result of covetousness. Not seeking benefit and being harmed by others, which is the result of malice. Falling into bad views and becoming deceitful, which is the result of wrong views. Therefore, with the two differences of situation and fully ripened result, it fully shows the unbearable suffering itself. How is it? The small ones are the unbearable world of Yama. The medium ones are the extremely unbearable. The large ones are the utterly unbearable. The distinction of the result that is similar to the cause is pervasive even in the realms of happiness. For each and every one, it should be known that the suffering in the bad realms is great and becomes immeasurable. Because it is so, these ten paths of non-virtuous actions will accumulate an immeasurable great heap of suffering, so it is said. Aspiration is the thought of rejoicing in the Mahayana Dharma for the sake of accumulating virtuous Dharma for the purpose of benefiting sentient beings, because of these ten paths of non-virtuous actions.

Having abandoned these, I shall abide in joy, delighting in the joy of the Dharma, so it is said. Practice means abiding in the path of virtuous actions and applying oneself to abandoning its opposing aspects, and others also adhere to it. Because having abandoned these ten paths of non-virtuous actions, one abides in the ten paths of virtuous actions, and also establishes others in those very paths, so it is said. The corresponding cause is that, relying on the arising of compassion, one generates ten kinds of minds even more strongly towards sentient beings. This is to be understood in relation to eight kinds of sentient beings: for those who are engaged in misconduct, one wishes that they may enter into good conduct, because one generates a mind of benefiting sentient beings even more strongly, so it is said. For those who are engaged in good conduct, one wishes that they may obtain the fruit of that, because one generates a mind of happiness, so it is said. For those who are in harmony with each other, one wishes that they may be reconciled, because one generates a mind of loving-kindness, so it is said. For those who are suffering, one wishes that they may be connected with relief from suffering, because one generates a mind of compassion, so it is said. For those who are happy, one wishes that they may be mindful, because one generates a mind of pity, so it is said. For the non-Buddhists, one is inclined to help them enter the path, because one generates a mind of benefiting, so it is said. For those who follow the Dharma, one wishes that it may never decline, because one generates a mind of guarding, so it is said. For all sentient beings who are embraced by the aspiration for enlightenment, one holds them as one's own body, thinking that those sentient beings are one's own body, because one generates a mind of equanimity, so it is said. The last two mind-generations are to be understood as entering the Mahayana path by relying on those very minds, and as accumulating merit and wisdom, etc., because one generates the mind of a teacher and the mind of a Buddha, so it is said. The corresponding fruit is the excellence of aspiration that is completely seized by the distinction of compassion. This refers to seeking desires, existence, and pure conduct under the influence of perverted views.
