One should abide in correct practice oneself and encourage others to abide in correct practice as well. Why is that? Because this is not a place or an opportunity. If one abides in wrong practice oneself, but encourages others to abide in correct practice, this is impossible. Thinking this way, the terms "evil destinies," "evil paths," and "places of downfall" should be understood in three ways: the meaning of going (to evil paths) through evil deeds; the meaning of the manifestation and accomplishment of a body of suffering; and the meaning of constantly falling into various harms. Because it includes faults, numbers, and the attainment of results, it should be understood as the words of the ten unwholesome paths of action. Among them, regarding what is called "because it includes faults, numbers, and the attainment of results, it is shown as the answer to the ten unwholesome paths of action," it should be understood as follows: Because it includes faults, it is called unwholesome, and faults refer to evil destinies, evil paths, and places of downfall, because they are to be blamed. Because it includes numbers, it is called ten. Because it includes the attainment of results, the paths of action should be understood. The so-called "because of taking them up correctly," taking them up correctly means practicing them universally. Thus, by eliminating causelessness and non-causes, and realizing that actions are one's own doing, one realizes that one cannot be separated from beings who abide in wrong practice, and in order to completely protect them, one manifests joy oneself. After that, after thoroughly contemplating the opposing aspects and the remedial paths of action with their results, and the wholesome paths of action that are increasingly purified with their results, wanting to combine the manifestation of supreme practice, one practices through pure discipline that accumulates wholesome dharmas. Because he practices in this way, due to correctly taking up these ten unwholesome paths of action, beings have places to go in hells, animal realms, and the realm of Yama. Due to correctly taking up these ten wholesome paths of action, there are places of birth as gods and humans, and so on, up to the peak of existence.

become possessed of. Prior to that, these ten paths of virtuous actions, if cultivated with a narrow mind, with a mind fearing the three realms, without great compassion, following what is heard from others, following after sounds, with the aspect of wisdom, then one accomplishes the Hearer Vehicle, thus it is said. The aspect of wisdom here should be understood as the aspect of truth. The evil destinies are suffering, the paths of non-virtuous actions are the origin, the cessation of those is cessation, the antidote to that is the path. The good destinies are suffering, the paths of virtuous actions are the origin, the abandonment of latent tendencies is cessation, the antidote to that is the path. Similar to fully cultivating in the aspect of wisdom, but the Hearer Vehicle is shown to be different by five aspects: cause, destruction, non-observation, support, object, and manner. Among those, the narrow-minded one is the cause of the Hearer Vehicle sentient being, it is the occasion for accomplishing immeasurable roots of virtue, and also because it only works for one's own benefit. Why is it said to be a narrow mind? Fearing suffering, why is it said to be a mind fearing the three realms? Not observing sentient beings, why is it said to be without great compassion? The teacher's oral instructions are the support, sound is the object. What is sound? It is attachment to self and sentient beings, etc. Thus, those realize that they are only sounds, and enter into the selflessness of the person, why is it said to follow what is heard from others, following after sounds? The Fully Awakened Ones, the Solitary Realizers, are shown by not tending towards teaching, and by abiding and manner. Those fully awaken without relying on a teacher or one who follows a teacher, why is it said not to rely on others, and to fully awaken oneself? Not desiring to teach the Dharma, the one who does not teach, why is it said to be without great compassion and skillful means? Abiding in the extremely subtle dependent origination, the one who abides much, what is it?
