Just as describing the footprints of walking, although one cannot see them directly, it does not mean one does not value them. Similarly, those that are contained by the wisdom of realization of the bodhisattva grounds, which are the abode of collections of names, words, and letters, like the footprints of what should be done, are also not of the very nature of being exactly like sound. Therefore, although they cannot be spoken or heard, it does not mean one does not value them. Thus, for a moment, the greatness of the meaning is shown through profundity. Why is it shown? Because I will speak, but you should not cling to the meaning as you do to sound, in order to show this. If one clings to the meaning as one does to sound, there will be five faults: the fault of not becoming an object of faith, the fault of effort not diminishing, the fault of deceiving others, the fault of slandering the teacher, and the fault of causing the abandonment of the Dharma. Thus, knowing that we do not have the five faults, by showing the profundity of the meaning, the retinue will greatly generate faith. Now, in order to make them generate faith through the greatness of the teaching itself, five verses were spoken: However, with the aspiration of love and compassion, From that, a portion in a sequential manner, What is to be said is not by the objects of the mind, As it is thought, that wisdom perfects it. Such an object is difficult to see, That is where the self-mind dwells, yet cannot be spoken. However, by the power of the Buddhas, it is well spoken, Listen to all with harmony and reverence. By this, enter into such wisdom, That cannot be spoken of even in an eon, The Dharma meaning is truly and completely as it is. Briefly, I will speak, please listen. Prepare with reverence, By the power of the Buddhas, I will speak well. With examples, reasonable, and equal letters, By sound, the sacred Dharma will be explained. That is very difficult to express with words, But the immeasurable power of the Sugata, The body of light has entered me. By that power, I am able to speak. Thus it is said. Among them, it is said that the grounds of the sons of the Buddhas cannot all be spoken, and it is also said that a portion of them is to be spoken. How should this be understood? The wisdom contained by the ground is of two types, namely, that which is the cause.

and becoming the fruit. Therefore, the cause should be explained, and it shows that it should be understood. That is one aspect of becoming the fruit. The greatness of that teaching is shown in three ways: the greatness of the perfection of the cause, the greatness of the perfection of the cause itself, and the greatness of the perfection of the skillful instruction. Among them, "with love and compassion, aspiration," this is the perfection of the cause. Among them, like the Sutra of Rising, the thought of achieving happiness and mental happiness, together with the cause, is love. The thought of eliminating suffering and mental unhappiness, together with the cause, is compassion. Aspiration is to generate the great Bodhicitta. Mentioning these two shows that love and compassion are uncommon, cultivated for a long time. As the order of sequence, this is the perfection of the cause itself, arising from hearing that explanation, arising from thinking, etc., with what order of knowledge does it become the cause between the wisdom that transcends the world. The perfection of skillful instruction is of two kinds: the skillful instruction that perfectly accomplishes, and the skillful instruction of the object. Among them, what is the skillful instruction that perfectly accomplishes? "The objects of the mind are not the dharmas, as the intention, that wisdom accomplishes." Thus it is said. What does it show? The wisdom arising from hearing, etc., those that become the objects of the mind, only become the cause of the wisdom that transcends the world, not with those perfectly accomplishing those, thus the wisdom of pure intention and realization, transcending the world, those accomplish that. Among them, what is the skillful instruction of the object? "The object of that is so difficult to see, it cannot be expressed even though it dwells in one's own mind." Thus it is said, what does it show? The object of that is so difficult to see, that which exists in one's own pure intention, cannot be expressed. Although the skillful instruction of such teaching is perfect, it cannot be realized by two faults, namely the speaker.
