Therefore, it is said to be unobstructed. Being superior by pervasiveness, why is it said to be like space? Because of entering into Suchness by its own nature, being superior by immovability, why is it? Because of entering into the nature without concealment, it is said to obtain the forbearance of non-arising dharmas. Thus, after showing the establishment of obtaining the pure forbearance of the eighth ground, it shows obtaining the distinction of abiding. Among them, obtaining the distinction of abiding is obtaining the profound abiding. This profoundness should be understood as seven types. Why is the profoundness due to entering into a distant ground? O sons of the Victorious Ones, a Bodhisattva who possesses such forbearance, immediately after attaining the immovable ground of the Bodhisattva, is said to have the profound abiding of the Bodhisattva, the wisdom of the distant. Why is the common profoundness of the pure Bodhisattvas said to be non-different? Why is the profoundness of the object, due to the absence of the appearance of the apprehended and the apprehender, said to be turning away from all characteristics and all bad conceptual grasping? In order to prevent the conceptualization of conflicting factors, bad grasping is mentioned. Why is the accomplishment profound because of engaging in the benefit of oneself and others said to be immeasurable? Why is the profoundness of not being overwhelmed said to be not being taken away by all Hearers and Solitary Buddhas? Why is the profoundness of the conflicting factors being thin said to be solitary? Why is the profoundness of manifestly turning towards the antidote? It is said to have attained the manifestation of being solitary from all. Suchness is solitary from all. The example of the absorption of cessation completely shows the peacefulness of that abiding. Why? O sons of the Victorious Ones, for example, a monk who possesses magical powers, who has attained the supreme mastery of mind, the last of the ninth ground, who has entered into the absorption of cessation, is free from movement and arrogance. O sons of the Victorious Ones, likewise, a Bodhisattva, immediately after attaining this immovable eighth ground of the Bodhisattva, all efforts

and is free from it. Having attained the Dharma-nature of spontaneous accomplishment, and being free from the efforts of body, speech, and mind, one abides in maturation. It is said. Moreover, being free from all agitation and conceit is because the mind, which is the basis of these, does not exist. Being free from all effort is because one has truly transcended the ground of effort. Attaining the Dharma-nature of spontaneous accomplishment is because one has found its antidote. Now, in order to truly show the attainment of the Dharma that is spontaneously accomplished, that is, spontaneous accomplishment and non-effort, and abiding in maturation, it is because one has attained a state contrary to effort. Abiding in maturation should be understood as abiding utterly in the suchness of the all-ground consciousness. The example of awakening from sleep dispels the fault of the cessation of consciousness in this abiding. Even if consciousness exists, endurance shows that it possesses true knowledge. Why? Sons of the Victorious Ones, for example, a person in a dream awakened from sleep thinks that he is being carried away by a great river. From there, he strives and struggles with great effort. Because of his striving and struggling, when he awakens, he will be free from all striving and struggling as soon as he awakens. Sons of the Victorious Ones, likewise, a Bodhisattva, knowing that the multitude of beings is carried away by the four great rivers, initiates great effort. Because he initiates great diligence, as soon as the Bodhisattva attains the immovable ground, he will be free from all effort, and all of his dualistic pervasive actions and characteristic pervasive actions will not appear at all. It is said. Moreover, in terms of purification, dualistic pervasive actions are samsara and nirvana; in terms of the enjoyment of objects, characteristic pervasive actions do not appear. The example of being born in the Brahma world shows that those of the lower realms do not arise at all, thus attaining maturation, and completely showing the difference by being far away. Why? Sons of the Victorious Ones, for example, one who is born and abides in the Brahma world has no desire.
