This complete understanding in accordance with the ripening of various actions is the explanation of the term "knowing the fruit." As for "knowing the meaning," meaning is benefit, and that is knowing. This is explained as fully knowing what is in accordance with benefiting oneself and benefiting others. Knowing the means is that by which even a small virtue is made to increase greatly, so that it is inexhaustible as long as samsara exists. Knowing wisdom is that by which even a small virtue is made to be powerful in that way, so that even the very great faults of samsara cannot overcome it. Therefore, what is explained by those two terms is that even a small root of virtue is made immeasurable, and is not overcome by aspects that are incompatible with great increase. Among these, by the power of means, it is greatly increased. By the power of wisdom, it is not overcome. Knowing that this one is suitable to be gathered because they have a share in this Dharma, and that this one is not because they do not have a share, that is knowing gathering. This is explained as discriminating between virtue and non-virtue. Knowing the perfections is fully knowing the divisions of generosity and so forth, and that is explained as fully knowing just as it is the correct arising of various aspects. "Arising" means that from that, Buddhahood itself arises, and it is a synonym for "collection." By fully knowing generosity and so forth, one knows the various aspects of the collection of merit and wisdom mixed together, and the various differences of fearlessness and Dharma giving and so forth. Knowing great compassion is that by which sentient beings are made to enter into merit and are brought forth from non-merit, and that is explained as introducing and bringing forth virtuous and non-virtuous dharmas. When sentient beings are made to fully ripen, knowing that is knowing that sentient beings should be made to fully ripen. That is explained as fully understanding what is the time and what is not the time. Knowing that there is no attachment to all dharmas is knowing that there is no attachment to imputing and denigrating the dharmas that are falsely conceived, and that is abandoning the two extremes and...

It is said that it depends on. The word "inner" refers to only consciousness. Completely abandoning the two extremes and meditating on only consciousness is the meaning of this word. The word "exertion" refers to armor-like diligence. The diligence of application will be mentioned below as "application." Exertion for the sake of purifying the physical actions of oneself and others is physical exertion. It is said, "all sentient beings," and so on. The word "all" also includes oneself. The exertion of speech and the exertion of mind should also be understood in the same way. What these three explain is that diligence is initiated in order to be free from the misdeeds of body, speech, and mind. In "others also," it is additionally stated that in order to be free from the misdeeds of body, etc., it actually refers to oneself. Initiating diligence means putting on armor. The so-called "in that very training" refers to the nature of being free from the misdeeds of body, etc. Exertion for the sake of internal individual examination is internal exertion. All phenomena become one in emptiness, and diligence is exerted by individually observing from within. Relying on meditation, abandoning attachment and hatred towards sentient beings is non-manifest clinging, and it is said, "all sentient beings," and so on. Its explanation is that relying on meditation, attachment and hatred are abandoned. Exertion for the sake of teaching the Dharma in accordance with sentient beings is external exertion. It is said, "all sentient beings," and so on. Teaching the Dharma in accordance with taming is corresponding combination. Its explanation is that it teaches the untamed cycle of existence. Exertion for the sake of completely seeking non-inverted hearing is the exertion of wisdom. Non-inverted hearing of the Great Vehicle, as well as the sequence of thinking, etc., can purify the wisdom of the Buddha. It is said, "the wisdom of the Buddha," and so on. Its explanation is that it seeks hearing without confusion. Exertion for the sake of purifying the Buddha's pure land is the exertion of the pure land.
