Therefore, both should be relied upon at all times. Thus, the Bhagavan's non-abiding nirvana is accomplished. Furthermore, by means of skillful means such as generosity, the perfect fruits of great enjoyment, such as the Form Body, the fields, and the retinue, are fully held, so the Bhagavan does not abide in nirvana. The Perfection of Wisdom is that by abandoning perversion, one does not abide in samsara. Because samsara is the nature of perversion. If it is said that since the categories of Dharma are known as rafts, even the dharmas should be abandoned, what need is there to mention non-dharmas? This is saying that one should abandon attachment to perversion, not that one should not abide even for the sake of perfecting the ultimate meaning. This is saying that one should fully accept the Dharma, and not accept falsehood. Therefore: At all times, one should rely on the master of skillful means and the Perfection of Wisdom, therefore, one will attain non-abiding nirvana. This is a statement with a source. The Lama also said that, therefore, at all times one should possess both skillful means and wisdom, and accumulate the accumulations of merit and wisdom in union. Thus, having taught that the practice of the union of skillful means and wisdom, one should possess both, now, in order to explain what skillful means and wisdom themselves are like, it is said: What is wisdom? What is skillful means? In order to dispel doubts, the true distinction between skillful means and wisdom will be clearly explained. Thus it is said, in order to dispel doubts. This is because the great teachers of the past spoke of these two as different. Therefore, the distinction between skillful means and wisdom is like this: In some texts it says: Skillful means is the mind of the Bodhisattva, which is great compassion for beings, and it also has three aspects according to the difference of the object. And other texts say that the mind of enlightenment in the form of conventional truth is skillful means. The Lama Pal Changchub Zangpo said: The Perfection of Wisdom...

Having abandoned stinginess, the perfection of generosity, etc., all collections of virtuous deeds, the Victorious Ones have taught as methods. That which is said thus is established as my root. The perfection of generosity, etc., is named: Here, generosity is threefold, namely, the distinctions of the giver, the object of giving, and the field of giving. The giver is for the sake of gain and reverence, or for the sake of fame and reputation, or because of being urged by others, or for compassion, or for service, etc. The object of giving is like this: Dharma and material goods and fearlessness, loving-kindness, etc. The field is like this: the Three Jewels and the place of the Lama, and all sentient beings of the five realms. Moreover, in the Tantra of the Four Seats of Vajrasana, it says: "Sixty thousand people of the common class are given to one pure Brahmin." Thus and so forth is extensively taught. Also, in the Sutra, it says: "The virtuous friend and teacher does not rely on others." Thus and so forth is extensively taught. Also, it is extensively taught in the Hundredfold Dharma Teaching. Furthermore, the Bhagavan, in the Yoga Tantra called "Victorious over the Three Worlds," says: Thus it is said: the generosity of empowerment, the generosity of Dharma, the generosity of wealth, the generosity of food, the generosity of fearlessness, the generosity of loving-kindness. Those are in order for disciples and unpleasant minds, renunciates and Brahmins and the poor and animals and litigants, all sentient beings. "Etc." means that other perfections are also taught, such as ethics, like this: the ethics of the Bodhisattva who first generates the mind, the one who has entered into practice, the non-returning one, the one who has obtained tolerance of the unborn Dharma, the one who is hindered by one birth, and the Bodhisattva of the last existence, etc. Other perfections are as they appear in the Sutras. All collections of virtuous Dharmas, this will be explained below. Furthermore, for the extensive meaning of these, see the Sutra Pitaka, and also the Compendium of Sutras, which clarifies the meaning of the Sutra Pitaka, the Bodhisattva Bhumi, the Bodhicharyavatara, the Compendium of Trainings, and the Paramita Tales of Acharya Hero.
