And, dying while abiding in great joy, and also being born in the next life in a place where there is a virtuous friend who is in accordance with the Dharma, and in this life becoming endowed with an immeasurable accumulation of merit that perfects the perfection of morality, and also obtaining in the next life the same morality as one's own birth, thus it is said. It is also said in the Compendium of Trainings: In this present time, guarding the trainings has great benefits, therefore it is proper to strive for it. Thus it is said, and this is also established in the noble Encouragement of Higher Intention, Peaceful Subduing Miracles, Moon Lamp, and the Sutra of the Jewel Cloud. From the Lama it is also said that in this way, this person immediately cuts off falling into the lower realms and will not be born there. Moreover, this person will not be born in the lower realms, and even if reborn as an animal, will not experience intense suffering, will be able to quickly liberate, and even while abiding there will be able to ripen others, this is what is said in the commentary on the Twenty Verses on Discipline. There are other benefits to properly taking the vows. The noble Chandragomin says: At that time, for the sake of that goodness, the Buddhas together with the Buddha's sons, will always with a virtuous mind, regard him as if he were a beloved son. Thus it is said. Moreover, the teacher Shantarakshita also says: Today I am born into the Buddha's lineage, I have become a son of the Buddha. I have begun to engage in activities that are in accordance with the lineage, for this immaculate lineage of monks, I will not become defiled, I should act in this way. Thus it is said. Therefore, the Bodhisattva who has taken the vows should guard and increase the precepts. One's own body, speech, and mind are the cause of purity, with the mind of entering, one abides in the vows, thus it is said. One's own body, speech, and mind are the cause of purity, without cause, is called thus, as it is said in the Tathagatagarbha Sutra: The body is purified, the speech is purified, the mind is purified, thus it is said, therefore with the morality of the vows, the body and speech are purified, and with the morality of gathering virtuous dharmas and benefiting sentient beings, the mind is purified. Or, each precept can also have an effect on the body.

All three can be purified. Alternatively, abandoning the seven actions such as killing purifies the body and speech, and abandoning the three actions such as covetousness purifies the mind. Furthermore, considering this meaning, the Sutra Requested by King Ljonpa of Humans or What says, "The discipline of completely purifying the body is to be free from attachment, hatred, and delusion. The discipline of completely purifying speech is the characteristic of not deceiving one's own deity, the Three Jewels. The discipline of completely purifying the mind is to be without covetousness, harmful intent, and wrong views." Therefore, one should learn well the precepts of discipline, and through the power of habit, one will develop great joy, delight, desire, diligence, and reverence for that discipline. Therefore, thinking and saying, "Having well learned the three trainings of discipline, great reverence will arise for the three trainings of discipline." That is what it means. The three trainings of discipline are the discipline of restraint, the discipline of accumulating virtuous dharmas, and the discipline of benefiting sentient beings. Among these, the discipline of restraint is the restraint of the seven classes of individual liberation vows, which protect against transgressions that have been prescribed, and the protection against the ten non-virtuous actions, which protect against natural transgressions. The discipline of accumulating virtuous dharmas is the accumulation of virtue for the sake of enlightenment through body, speech, and mind after having properly taken the vows, especially by engaging with great joy in listening, thinking, and meditating. Similarly, speaking frankly to the lamas at the appropriate time, performing prostrations, rising, and joining the palms together, practicing these actions universally, serving, praising those with qualities, rejoicing in all merits, enduring the contempt of others, dedicating all virtues to enlightenment, making various correct aspirations from time to time, offering to the Three Jewels with vast forms of offerings, exerting effort in virtue, abandoning carelessness, protecting the basis of training with mindfulness and awareness, and the sense faculties.
