Having taken full ordination with ten matters, the self-arisen ones are the Buddhas and Pratyekabuddhas. Entering through this is the fifth reliance. The phrase "Come here, Bhikshu" refers to fame and so on. Promising to be a teacher refers to Kashyapa Buddha and so on. Being pleased by questions refers to Sudatta and so on. Promising the Guru's Dharma refers to the great goddess Mother of All Beings. The messenger is the Dharma donation. The five excluding the Vinaya holder are border regions. The assembly of ten are the people of the central region, and by reciting the refuge three times, it is said that the assembly of sixty virtuous ones took full ordination. There are four types of Bhikshus: Bhikshu in name, self-proclaimed Bhikshu, Bhikshu because of begging, and Bhikshu who subdues afflictions. Nowadays, Bhikshus with perfectly pure discipline are very rare. Master Shantideva said, "The root of the teachings is the Bhikshu, but even the Bhikshu is difficult to find." Therefore, compared to Bhikshus who have flaws in their vows, who are decayed, torn, defiled, broken, or incomplete, a pure layperson is praised as a vessel of the Great Vehicle, and the Lamas emphasize this greatly. Furthermore, the term "vow" refers to preventing and guarding against the flow of immoral conduct. That is, from whom it is obtained, how it is obtained, the time of taking the vow, how it is taken, how it is relinquished, its nature, the cause of falling, the cause of not falling, and rising from the fall. The meaning of "from whom it is obtained" and so on should be asked of the Vinaya holder and looked up in the texts. How is it relinquished? There are many causes for relinquishing the Pratimoksha vows: renouncing the objects of training from the depths of one's heart in the presence of someone who cannot communicate, abandoning those of the same kind, committing a defeat, the simultaneous appearance of two genders, and severing the root of virtue. Why are these the causes of relinquishing the vows? Because the mind of truly relinquishing arises, the basis is abandoned, any cause of falling arises, the basis decays, and the root is severed. Also, some Vinaya holders say that committing one fall

They say that everything will be abandoned (through confession). Some say that it is abandoned at the time when the true Dharma declines. The Sarvastivadins, holders of the Vinaya, say this: Having committed one transgression, the remaining precepts are not abandoned, because he has both precepts and non-precepts. It is like a person who has both property and debt. If that transgression is confessed, then he is one who possesses precepts, and is not without precepts. Precepts that have changed their name and were not previously present are also not abandoned, and what has already been obtained is also not abandoned. It is the same when the true Dharma declines. Abandonment due to transmigration is also because the body is different, the vows were not taken there, and because one does not remember the precepts. These are spoken following the view of the teacher Dhanamula. Although there are many views different from this treatise, they are not elaborated here. Regarding the nature, one should also inquire of the Vinaya Pitaka, and the holders of the Vinaya of their respective schools. There are two causes for the occurrence of transgressions: not doing what should be done, and doing what should not be done. There are also four: not knowing, not respecting, not being careful, and having strong afflictions. There are five causes for not incurring transgressions: guarding the doors of the senses and abiding, knowing the measure of food, not sleeping in the upper and lower parts of the night and striving in yoga, acting with mindfulness, having mindfulness, being careful, regarding even small faults as terrifying, and properly directing the mind is the first cause. Observing the conduct of renunciates to a great extent, regarding the teacher as the Buddha, practicing pure conduct, thinking that one will be blamed by the gods who love the Dharma, and by wise people and worldly people, feeling ashamed after doing it oneself, and having a sense of shame is the second cause. Having few things, few affairs, and few boundaries of activities is the third cause. Abiding without mixing with householders and renunciates, being skilled in transgressions and non-transgressions, and striving in the direction of virtue is the fourth cause. Beginners, madmen, sleepers, those with disturbed minds, and those oppressed by feelings are the fifth cause. There are three ways to rise from transgressions: generating five regrets, and having mindfulness complete with five limbs.
