The Buddha's teaching is to turn away from sins such as killing, and the Buddha's teaching is that as long as the Pratimoksha vows remain, it remains and depends on it, therefore, only the Pratimoksha vows are shown first. Even if it is done in this order of entry, for those who previously had no Mahayana habits, any of the seven Pratimoksha vows is the preliminary. For those who previously had no Mahayana habits, this vow will not even arise. Therefore, it is well said that "there is a share from the root, otherwise it is not." One should enter the text itself: In the seven Pratimoksha vows, as said by the Tathagata, the glory of Brahmacharya is the best, and it is considered as the vows of the Bhikshus. Having said that, I think that among the seven vows, the vows of the Bhikshus are not common. It is said that all the Vinaya Pitakas and the works of the noble Arhats, such as "Entering Wisdom", and the Great Vibhasha Shastra written by others, and the Abhidharma Kosha, which cherishes this meaning as a summary, etc., list eight kinds, but here it is said that there are seven kinds, what is the matter? What is said is true. Although it is said so in the scriptures, the noble Asanga, in all the scriptures of the Yogacharabhumi Shastra, and in the chapter on ethics, lists seven kinds. The noble Asanga obtained the Samadhi of the Dharma stream, and is the Bodhisattva of the third ground, and has been prophesied in the great root Tantra of the noble Manjushri, as it is said: The noble Asanga, knows the very meaning of the treatises. Moreover, who would doubt that the Lord Maitreya directly heard all the Tripitaka? If one harbors hatred and doubt towards such a great-minded person, it will only destroy oneself. The venerable Lama Pal Changchub Zangpo also said in the commentary on the Twenty Vows: Thus, the ethics of vows is to take the seven vows of Pratimoksha. Among them, the distinction between Bhikshus and Shramaneras, and Bhikshunis, is the category of renunciation.

There are five types. There are two categories of householders: male lay practitioners and female lay practitioners. The precepts for a day and night are not ascetic practices, nor are they abstaining from sexual misconduct arising from desire, and because they are followed for a long time, they are not suitable to be included in the category of individual liberation, so they were not taught. The lama is a great holder of the Vinaya Pitaka of the Bodhisattvas, and because he possesses the oral instructions transmitted from one to another between the noble Nagarjuna and the master Shantideva, one should follow that great scholar. Now, let us briefly discuss these seven categories of individual liberation. There are two types of male lay practitioners: those who have abandoned sexual misconduct arising from desire and those who have abandoned even their own wives. The common precepts for both of these are as follows: the four root downfalls and abstaining from alcohol. Some say abstaining from wrong views. Regarding this, the holders of the Vinaya consider alcohol to be a natural offense, while the authors of the Abhidhamma say it is a prohibited offense. The detailed explanations of these are omitted here. Such are the five precepts, and the forty-five precepts that belong to these aspects, that is, the faultless male lay practitioner who possesses fifty precepts. Similarly, becoming a novice monk involves what should be confessed, what should be guarded, and what is without fault. The precepts of a monk are two hundred and fifty-three, of which twenty-seven are to be confessed, two hundred and thirteen are to be guarded, and thirteen are without fault. The novice monk who guards the remaining two hundred and forty faultless precepts, except for the thirteen, is virtuous and pure. The nun is one who well guards the six dharmas that correspond to the six dharmas, that is, the pure nun. Similarly, the monk should also practice the precepts very completely as stated in the scriptures of the Vinaya, becoming a pure monk. Similarly, the nun should also possess five hundred precepts and be pure. These also have different schools, such as the Mahasanghika school and the Sarvastivada school.
