These four retinues are powerful and tireless in teaching the Dharma, so they are not at all discouraged. The words do not deviate from the nature of Dharma, are clear and have the function of words. Among them, a Bodhisattva virtuous friend who possesses all aspects of such qualities makes the actions of a virtuous friend meaningful in five ways: that is, from the beginning, he wishes to benefit and bring happiness to others, and he knows what benefit and happiness are like. His wisdom is not inverted. He has the ability and power to subdue any sentient being by any method and way of teaching, and he is not at all discouraged. He has no partiality towards inferior, intermediate, and particularly superior beings, but has equal compassion. Among them, the virtuous friend abides in the basis of faith in five ways: because even hearing his words brings great joy, let alone seeing him in person. His conduct is very peaceful, he has conduct, his limbs and limbs do not change, so his conduct is perfect. The actions of body, speech, and mind have no faults and do not change, so they are stable. Unlike pretending to have stable conduct in order to deceive others, he is without hypocrisy. He does not rejoice in the Dharma talks or gains and respect of others, and he also gives his own gains and respect to others, so he is without jealousy. He is frugal in his expenses, because he is frugal in his expenses, he gives away all the offerings he receives, so he is frugal in his expenses. Among them, that person who becomes a Bodhisattva virtuous friend performs the actions of a virtuous friend to other beings to be tamed in five ways: talking, remembering, admonishing, following and showing, and teaching the Dharma. The distinctions of these words should be understood in the Hearer Ground. Admonitions and following and showing should be understood in the chapter on Power. Among them, relying on a Bodhisattva virtuous friend is perfected in four ways: serving the sick from time to time, doing ordinary service, being respectful and joyful, speaking respectfully from time to time, prostrating, and rising to greet him.

Joining palms, prostrating, making offerings, offering robes, food, bedding, cushions, medicine for the sick, and utensils that are in accordance with the Dharma, entering after arranging a dwelling, confessing misdeeds, going before, asking questions and listening. Among these, a Bodhisattva who wishes to listen to the Dharma from a virtuous friend should listen to the Dharma with five kinds of perception: With the meaning of preciousness, perceive it as a jewel; with the meaning of the cause for obtaining vast wisdom, perceive it as an eye; with the meaning of truly revealing all Dharmas, perceive it as light; with the meaning of the cause for obtaining unsurpassed Bodhi, perceive it as great benefit; with the meaning of the cause for liberation in this life, and for obtaining perfect Bodhi, the joy of tranquility and insight, which is without fault, perceive it as without fault. Among these, when a Bodhisattva listens to the Dharma from a virtuous friend, one should not focus on five things: one should not think that his discipline is broken, thinking "it is already broken"; one should not think, "this person's discipline is broken and does not uphold vows, I will not listen to the Dharma from this person"; one should not think of someone of low caste, "I will not listen to the Dharma from this person"; one should rely on the Dharma, not rely on the person; one should rely on the meaning, not rely on the words; one should also not focus on ugly faces and forms, and bad words, but should listen to the Dharma with reverence. Because the Dharma is never defiled by the faults of a person, nor does it become flawed. Among these, if a Bodhisattva is dull-witted, and a strong thought arises about the faults of a person, and he does not want to listen to the Dharma, know that this will only harm himself, and wisdom will be completely lost. Therefore, since all the Buddha's teachings depend on the Lama, a Bodhisattva who is a beginner should always rely on a skilled Lama, a virtuous friend. Other benefits are also explained: Some dull-witted Bodhisattvas who live in the household, it is said that merely relying on this aspiration, they will obtain perfect Bodhi. As the Bhagavan said:
