Not falling into wrong paths and evil ways, True mindfulness is the cause of tranquility. Which mindfulness is most excellent, That is called awareness. Whoever constantly observes, Body and mind, From mindfulness and awareness, Samadhi will also arise. Samadhi is not different from tranquility, It does not arise without discipline. Therefore, samadhi arises from discipline, Therefore, the cause of samadhi, All the other teachings, such as exertion, Are included within discipline. Therefore, possessing mindfulness and awareness, One should seek samadhi. Desiring discipline in tranquility, One should always strive with respect. In the perfection of discipline, guarding the body. Also guarding the body, For the sake of doing, Enjoyment should also be guarded. Enjoyment is of two kinds, Divided by clothing and food. Among them, what is guarding food? Whatever is blameless, That and others are flattery and, Begging for alms free from pretense. Whenever this son of the Victorious One, When walking for alms, At that time, the wise one should generate, Three kinds of intentions should be generated, The intention to uphold the Dharma in the body, And to nourish the worms in the body, And also to follow the benefactors, The intention of acceptance should be generated. Whoever is for the sake of others, If enjoyment has been made, that is protection. Whoever enjoys only himself, From that, afflictions will cause a fall. Furthermore, clinging to others, With the desire of the mind, the wealth of others, Whoever completely enjoys and acts, That is a fall without afflictions. From "of" to one's own wealth, Whoever has enjoyed the enjoyment, That is filling one's own belly, It is a fall of stealing. Therefore, for the sake of sentient beings, In order to diligently uphold the body that holds the Dharma, For the sake of this being able to abide, That is complete enjoyment. Other than the Dharma robes allowed by the Buddha, The wise should not take more. For the sake of protecting the banner of the teachings, The wise should not give up what is not allowed. Here, many sentient beings, In order to completely protect against slander, Also to some who beg, The three Dharma robes should not be given. Those are the protectors of enjoyment. Not desiring different results.

All virtuous deeds will be protected and accomplished. Do not proclaim it to the world, just like doing non-virtuous deeds. Likewise, even without arrogance, constantly, by completely abandoning gain and respect, and with loving-kindness towards all sentient beings, all virtuous deeds will be protected and accomplished. In this way also, if one becomes free from pride, the qualities of the Sugata will arise spontaneously, just as rivers flow into the ocean after completely abandoning the mountains. Whoever is controlled by anger will surely go to evil destinies and inferior realms, be born into lowly families, and fully embrace unfavorable conditions. The father of disbelief is anger; there is nothing other than wrath. It destroys the virtues accumulated over many eons. Therefore, one should also treat sentient beings who strive to destroy, like a king's son who threatens the great assembly of people, looking at them with extreme foresight. He also sees this one thing. Why is it that the great king's army, his army, can cause one to fall into hell here when the king is angry? Likewise, if one can give the equivalent of the Sugata with reverence, can one not? Likewise, let alone the Buddhas born from the joy of sentient beings, have you not seen your own fame and good fortune? Whoever crosses the ocean of the three realms through joy, the qualities of the previous victors will soon be perfected. Those of inferior intelligence fall into hell because they do not please others. Therefore, why should I, who desire good, not pay homage to all sentient beings? Likewise, having a beneficial mind towards sentient beings, speaking pleasant words, relying on and engaging in them, and delighting in speaking truthfully, in all lives, as soon as one is born, those that arise naturally, as well as the perfectly complete Bodhicitta, will arise effortlessly. These are the protectors of virtuous deeds. Here now, let us speak of the complete purification of the body. That is, in short, the sins of the body are the exhaustion and purification of afflictions. The cause of exhausting the sins accumulated over many eons, the four dharmas relied upon in the Sutra of Four Dharmas, should be fully embraced. These four dharmas are: to practice condemnation in all ways, to fully embrace the antidote, and then the power to turn away from wrongdoing.
