Friends, the body of the Tathagata is born from immeasurable virtuous deeds. You should generate faith in such a body. Volume 3. Even if one obtains a position of power, no one should act wrongly, but should diligently practice the Dharma correctly. And the correct practice is found in the chapter of the Truthful One. The Dharma king who strives to protect beings should abide greatly by dwelling in eight kinds of perceptions. What are the eight? For sentient beings belonging to the category of beings, generate the perception of a child; for the unruly and wrathful, generate the perception of a sick person; for those who are suffering, generate the perception of compassion; for those who are happy, generate the perception of joy; for those who are unfriendly, generate the perception of seeing the fault in their basis; for those who are friendly, generate the perception of guarding them; for enjoyments, generate the perception of medicine; and for oneself, generate the perception of selflessness. The great king, dwelling with the perception of a child for sentient beings belonging to the category of beings, means that the great king, like a father disciplining his son, even if he engages in subduing the unruly, does not abandon the thought of compassion. Dwelling with the perception of a sick person for the unruly means that, like a doctor, he does not get angry with those who cause harm, and acts to completely eliminate faults. Dwelling with the perception of compassion for those who are suffering means engaging in completely abandoning all harm and accomplishing benefit. Dwelling with the perception of joy for those who are happy means not generating greed and jealousy for the wealth and possessions of others. Dwelling with the perception of seeing the fault in their basis for those who are unfriendly means completely abandoning their basis, and not to mention others, even making friends with enemies. Dwelling with the perception of guarding those who are friendly means strengthening friendship and being friendly with everyone. Dwelling with the perception of medicine for enjoyments means not engaging in wrong conduct in desires, and enjoying enjoyments without attachment. Dwelling with the perception of selflessness for oneself means striving for the sake of the Dharma and being in the presence of ascetics and Brahmins.

and thus engage in practicing the Dharma that is in accordance with it. Those eight who abide in the thought of a great king, a king who possesses the Dharma of abiding, even by merely offering gifts, their enjoyments will increase greatly. If it is not in accordance with the Dharma, even if accomplished through flattery and all kinds of desires, it will not increase in that way. Thus it is said. Also in the Sutra of Perfectly Subduing Doubt, it says: Possessing four qualities, a king, one who is enthroned from the crown of the royal lineage, will not fall into being a possessor of unlawful Dharma, and will quickly please the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened Buddha, and will also fully possess great and abundant enjoyments. What are the four? They are as follows: Abiding for the sake of protecting the teachings of the Tathagata. Reviling sinful and unwholesome Dharmas, and upholding the Dharma of emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness, and generating the mind of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Thus it is said. What are the unwholesome Dharmas that should be completely abandoned? It comes from the chapter of the Essence of the Sun: In the future, the royal lineage, the Brahmin lineage, the Vaishya lineage, and the Shudra lineage, etc., will steal and forcibly seize the foundations of houses, the foundations of fields, the foundations of monasteries, gardens, male servants, female servants, hired workers, bedding, cushions, medicine for the sick, utensils, and even foot-powered vehicles that have been given to the Sangha who abide in the Dharma. From the royal lineage to the Shudra lineage, those people will quickly possess twenty undesirable things in this life. What are the twenty? Becoming servants of the gods, In all directions, their bad reputation will spread, They will be abandoned by friends, relatives, and in-laws, They will have many enemies, Wealth, grain, and utensils will decrease, There will be much distraction, They will become incomplete, They will become sleepless, They will always be threatened by thirst, Even the drinks they consume will become poison.

And, one will quickly be separated from beloved and agreeable friends, and will constantly fight with others, and parents, wives, sons, daughters, male servants, female servants, etc., will not obey instructions, and his secret words, secret wealth, the secrets of the concubine's entourage, and all his secret things will be revealed and exposed, and unpleasant distributors will waste the things to be enjoyed, and one will be quickly struck by severe illness, and without medicine and nursing, flesh and blood will be depleted, and one will experience suffering, and one will be wetted by one's own urine, and will face death. Therefore, one will quickly encounter these twenty things that are displeasing to the great king. If someone plunders or enjoys for himself, or allows others to enjoy the offerings, enjoyments, wealth, and utensils given to the monks who abide in the Dharma, then after his death, he will be reborn in the Great Hell of Avici, where he will drink molten copper juice for a kalpa, eat iron pills, wear clothes of fire, and experience various extremely unbearable sufferings. After the time spent in the kalpa is exhausted, in a waterless, desolate wilderness, he will be reborn equal to a lost hungry ghost, and even if reborn, he will be without feet, without hands, without eyes. Then, the hot winds from the four directions will burn him, and he will walk on ground like a razor, and in this way, he will experience such suffering for millions of years. Even if he dies and is reborn in those hundred times, he will be reborn in the great ocean as a body of flesh one hundred yojanas in size, and due to the karma of previous lives, water like molten copper juice will appear in a circumference of one hundred yojanas, and he will experience the suffering of hell beings in that water for millions of years. Then, after death, he will also be born by transformation in a desolate wilderness, becoming a huge body of flesh as large as Mount Sumeru, and all four sides will be burned by extremely hot winds, and beasts and birds will gather from all four directions to eat him. Even in those hundred times, after a long time, he will die and...
