The perfection of generosity is an exceedingly superior dharma, yet it is not that one does not properly practice the other perfections. Thus it is also stated in the Great Mother Sutra. "Lord, the vast mind of the Bodhisattva and the mind of the great being are truly rare." The Lord said, "These do not seek the perfections such as the position of Indra, the guardian of the world, and the position of a universal monarch, but fully accumulate roots of virtue in unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment, and even these are without attachment and without grasping. This is the vast mind of these. Furthermore, the happiness of non-attachment, the happiness of non-grasping, and the happiness of nirvana, all that happiness, they also wish to share with all sentient beings, and fully accumulate roots of virtue in unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment, by completely abandoning samsara. This is the mind of the great being of these." Pray, Lord, the dharmas of the Bodhisattva are rare and wonderful, and those who wish to attain them should generate the mind of enlightenment in unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment. Thus it is said. Among these, the vast sight is seeing the form body by the distinction of black power. By the power of aspiration, it is seeing the dharma body from the true aspiration within. By skillful means, to show the meaning of many and extremely many, it is many numbers. Bodhisattvas cultivate the perfections, also relying on intention, and there are also six aspects to that, namely, not being satisfied, vastness, joy, benefit, non-attachment, and virtuous intention. Here, a Bodhisattva, in a single moment, also gives worlds filled with all the jewels equal to the sands of the Ganges River to a single sentient being, and also gives bodies equal to that in each moment for kalpas equal to that. Just as it is done for one sentient being, so it is also done for the immeasurable realm of sentient beings.

Wherever complete and perfect enlightenment can be fully matured, it is also the same. Furthermore, just like a roadside tree of enjoyment laden with excellent fruits, sentient beings without doubt, no matter what their thoughts, naturally abide there. Bodhisattvas take from it vast wealth and enjoy it themselves. Those who delight in giving and have enjoyment are none other than Bodhisattvas. Such as this, never being satisfied, is the thought of giving. The lineage of the Bodhisattva's giving does not allow such a nature to diminish for even a moment, and it does not cease until it abides in the essence of enlightenment. Such is the vast thought of giving. Those sentient beings who are thus taken care of by giving will be very happy, but not those sentient beings who are taken care of by the giving. Such a nature is the joyful thought of giving. Bodhisattvas regard those sentient beings who benefit from giving as being most helpful to themselves, and not themselves as being helpful to them, because they are the proximate cause of showing the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. This is the thought of benefit. The vast amount of merit arising from giving to sentient beings in this way will not seek reward or retribution, this is the thought of non-attachment. If one rejoices that the ripening of such a vast heap of giving belongs only to sentient beings, and not for oneself, and together with all sentient beings dedicates it to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, this is the thought of goodness. The body of the Bodhisattva is as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River. For eons equal to that lifespan, constantly afflicted by all necessities, in the three thousand great thousand world realms filled with flames, he performs the four postures, and from one moment of the perfection of discipline to one moment of the perfection of wisdom, he cultivates without ever being satisfied. This is his perfection of discipline up to the perfection of wisdo

Thinking about meditation until enlightenment. The lineage of meditation, until abiding in the heart of the Bodhi tree, without interruption, this is the vast thought. Meditation brings great joy, but not for the benefit of sentient beings, this is the joyful thought. For those sentient beings who have been given benefit, the Bodhisattva regards them as great benefactors, not just for them, but by showing the cause of unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, this is the thought of benefiting others. Thus, from the arising of the discipline paramita, up to the arising of the wisdom paramita, accumulating vast merit, but not seeking reward or fruition, this is the thought without attachment. The fruition of such a collection of merit, rejoicing to see it as belonging only to sentient beings, and dedicating it together with all sentient beings to unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, this is the virtuous thought. Again, it is said that in a single moment, one obtains and enters into a hundred different samadhis. One sees a hundred Buddhas. One also knows their blessings. One shakes a hundred worlds and makes them appear. One travels to a hundred fields and brings a hundred sentient beings to maturity. One abides for a hundred kalpas and enters into the beginning and the end. One distinguishes a hundred teachings of the Dharma. One shows a hundred bodies. In each body, one also shows having a hundred Bodhisattva retinues. Here, the function of samadhi is to see the Buddhas, etc. Shaking is to subdue those who should be subdued. Walking and appearing are to go and see and then bring them to maturity. Entering refers to, from the beginning and the end, causing sentient beings to be free from sin, thereby showing the operation of karma. Distinguishing is for the purpose of making one's own wisdom fully mature, thinking about the meaning of the terms of the Dharma.
