It is so. The eight qualities of water are as follows: coolness, pleasant taste, lightness, softness, clarity, absence of foul odor, non-choking when drunk, and non-harmful to the stomach when drunk. It is also said: Between them are seven seas of play. The first is eighty thousand yojanas. That is the inner sea. Its surface is three times. The other seas of play are half and half. So it is said. Between the Holder of Circumference and the surroundings is the great salty sea. It is also said: On the remaining outer great sea, there are three hundred and twenty-two thousand yojanas. So it is said. Outside the Holder of Circumference, in the four directions, are the four continents. They are as follows: In the south is Jambudvipa, in the west is Godaniya, in the north is Kuru, and in the east is Videha. It is also said: That is also, Jambudvipa has three sides, two thousand yojanas, shaped like a chariot. One side is two and a half yojanas. Eastern Videha is shaped like a crescent moon. Three sides are like this one, three hundred and fifty yojanas. Godaniya is round, eight thousand yojanas. The center is three thousand five hundred yojanas. Kuru is square and equal. So it is said. In between are eight subcontinents, as follows: On the two sides of Jambudvipa are Chamara and another Chamara. Those of Godaniya are: Sreemanta and Pathas. Those of Kuru are: Kuru and the companion of Kuru. Those of eastern Videha are: Deha and Videha. Here, in Jambudvipa, to the north of Jambudvipa are three black mountains. Beyond those three there are also three. Again three, making nine. Beyond that is the snowy mountain itself. Beyond that is the Anavatapta lake, with water and a width of fifty yojanas, filled with water possessing eight qualities. From there flow four great rivers. They are as follows: Ganga, Sindhu, Sita, and Vaksu. On the north shore of this lake is the Jambu tree, with a height and width of fifty yojanas. On what basis is it called Jambudvipa? Its fruits are sweet and of excellent taste. Beyond that is the fragrant mountain with rising fragrance. Jambu

In the center of this continent, the Vajra Throne is manifested from the land of golden essence, its height equal to the edge of Jambudvipa, and its width equal to the size of a chariot wheel. It is where the last existence Bodhisattva dwells and generates samadhi like a vajra. Below this Jambudvipa, at twenty thousand yojanas, is the great Avici hell, its length and width also equal to twenty thousand yojanas. Thus, from here to the foundation below Avici hell is forty thousand yojanas. Above Avici hell, from bottom to top, are seven hells. Namely: Extremely Hot Hell, Hot Hell, Great Howling Hell, Howling Hell, Crushing Hell, Black Rope Hell, Revival Hell, and so on, residing around the four sides of Avici Hell. Avici and others are the eight great hot hells. Each of these eight great hot hells has sixteen neighboring hells, namely: Kukkula, Kunapa, the road filled with sharp blades, and so on, and the Immeasurable River. Each side also has four neighboring hells, and the other three sides each have four, totaling sixteen. In addition, the eight cold hells are located directly above the great hot hells. Namely: Blister Hell, Great Blister Hell, Atata Hell, Hahaha Hell, Huhu Hell, Utpala-like Hell, Padma-like Hell, and Great Padma-like Hell. The ephemeral hells have no fixed location, residing on riverbanks, seashores, mountains, wildernesses, and evil places, and so on. The fundamental abode of animals is the great ocean, but they also live on land, in water, and in the sky. The king of the pretas is Yama. His abode is located five hundred yojanas below this place, completely separated by five hundred yojanas, which is the residence of King Yama. Other than that, they rely on other places. The Asuras are located on Mount Sumeru, universally residing in the large caves below the lower tiers. The abodes of the desire realm gods are six, namely, the abodes of the Four Great Kings.

The abode of the Thirty-three Gods, the palace of No Strife, the palace of Tushita, the realm of Delightful Transformation, and the palace of Others' Power of Transformation. The realm of the Four Great Kings has three aspects: the four tiers of Mount Meru, the seven mountain ranges, and the palaces of the sun, moon, and stars. From here upwards, in the space forty thousand leagues away, the wind, like a circle of water, completely surrounds Mount Meru, and the palaces of the moon, sun, and stars move within it. The moon and sun move from halfway up Mount Meru, level with the top of the Axis-holding Mountain. The size is, the moon's circumference is fifty leagues, and the sun's circumference is fifty-one leagues. As it is said: Halfway up Mount Meru are the sun and moon, with fifty-one leagues. The size of the stars' palaces is: the smaller ones are about the length of a breath. The outside below the sun's palace is the nature of fire crystal, round, and its rays are hot and very bright. Below the moon's palace is also water crystal, round, cool, and appears bright. One moon acts on the four continents, and so does one sun. For example, when it is night in Uttarakuru in the north, the sun sets in Purvavideha in the east, it is noon in Jambudvipa, and sunrise in Aparagodaniya in the west. Similarly, other continents should be adjusted accordingly. Here, due to the differences in the sun's movement, nights and days increase and decrease. For example, from the ninth day of the dark fortnight of Bhadrapada, the night increases. From the ninth day of the dark fortnight of Phalguna, the night decreases. When the night increases, the day decreases; when the day decreases, the night increases. If asked, why is the moon seen to wane on the first day of the white fortnight? Because the sun's rays cast a shadow on the other side of the moon's circumference, so an incomplete circumference is seen. Or, due to the aggregation of movement, it is like that, sometimes waning, half, and full are seen.
