Now, although it is without characteristics because it is the same in nature as conception, it is not permissible to ascertain separately the objects that are held. Therefore, even if one strives to analyze each of the various aspects from the nature of various knowledges, which is like external objects, because one cannot grasp any nature, it becomes conventional truth. If that is the case, then by this characteristic of conventional truth alone, it will be proven that all things are merely manifest as the nature of conventional truth, therefore only our view will be established as the doctrine. As it is said in the Sutra of the Descent into Lanka: 'The natures of those discriminated by wisdom cannot be ascertained. Therefore, they are inexpressible, and the nature is to be ascertained.' Others say that the meaning that can accomplish a purpose is ultimately existent, but otherwise it is conventionally existent. If here, relying on the true conventional truth, one speaks of the characteristic of being ultimately existent in order to guide children, then this is reasonable. Therefore, it is said that it exists just as it is. However, if one says that only one is the characteristic of being ultimately existent, then the function of all things in the ultimate truth will not be established, just as it was analyzed before. Therefore, this characteristic is impossible. Others say that the emptiness of the aspects of grasper and grasped in knowledge is the suchness. The two are conventional truths. If one wants to express the nature of non-existence as emptiness, then that non-existence is the suchness. However, if it is not the nature, then since another nature of knowledge other than the appearance of duality is not established by valid cognition, this cannot show the suchness. If one thinks, 'If the non-dual characteristic of consciousness is not ultimately existent, then what will be the cause of the appearance of duality?' That is not reasonable, because the simultaneous connection between it and that is not established. Two and non-two cannot be connected simultaneously by their nature, because truth and non-truth are mutually exclusive.

Therefore, it is contradictory due to the characteristic of abiding. The characteristic of being produced from that is also not existent, because it is not reasonable for something that is not true to arise from anywhere, like a rabbit's horn. If it is not like that, then this would only become the nature of being dependent on others, and not the completely imputed. Therefore, if it is not connected with consciousness, it will not appear like a rabbit's horn. Furthermore, if there is another nature of consciousness other than the two, but the two are indeed non-existent, then at that time the two themselves should not appear, because they are not the nature of consciousness. The nature of consciousness is only this, that is, for the sake of clarifying itself, it does not rely on other clarity, and it does not remain unclear, like the face of the sky and the light of the wick of a lamp. The two are also the same as that, so it is not reasonable that this is not the nature of consciousness. If the two become the nature of consciousness and are also false, then it will be clearly stated that consciousness itself is false. Furthermore, saying that the non-dual nature of consciousness is true, this can also be temporarily considered as the nature of permanence, because the permanent things have already been extensively refuted before. Because the permanent has no difference, yoga practice and so on cannot do even a little benefit, so the efforts of those who seek liberation will become meaningless. In the ultimate sense, it should also not be impermanent, because it has already refuted the arising with and without cause, and it is not reasonable for the unborn to be impermanent. The other nature of things is also not existent, therefore, because the nature of selflessness pervades all things, and because it is established by valid cognition, it is reasonable in the ultimate sense. Therefore, the Bhagavan said: All dharmas are always empty of self-nature, the sons of the Victorious One distinguish things, all conditioned existence is empty in every way, a partial emptiness is the view of the heretics. Thus, those who desire to abandon afflictions and cognitive obscurations, endowed with realization, should cultivate only this path of the selflessness of all dharmas, as it is the root of obscurations.
