All phenomena are established as devoid of inherent existence. All phenomena are established as devoid of inherent existence. All phenomena are established as devoid of inherent existence. Homage to the All-Knowing One. For beings with inverted minds regarding objects, all afflictions will increase, therefore, in order to show them the cause for cutting off all afflictions, which is non-inverted view, this treatise is composed. Among these, first, if someone truly states the inherent nature of objects, then they are actually stating that objects possess inherent existence, and in order to merely reveal their inversion, the arising of objects should be examined by reason and scripture. If someone thinks that the arising of sprouts and so on depends on causes and conditions such as seeds, which is only known even to cowherds, then what is there to examine? For determining the nature of objects, those with conceptual thought are not suitable for examination, because they will fall into endless faults, and will fall into a state of non-conceptual thought. If you think like this, it is not reasonable, because it has not been determined by valid cognition (pramana), and fame may also be false. If it is not like that, then for those who abandon their own fame and act, there will be no deception in anything. For example, destruction is also known to have causes, and forms and so on are also known to be external objects, but even so, if examined, valid cognition may cause harm, similarly, for this, fame may also have a false nature, so it is indeed suitable for examination. For this, scriptures that are contrary to reason will not satisfy those with conceptual thought, and scriptures that are stabilized by reason cannot be led to other meanings, therefore, first it should be examined by reason. The syllogism is: whatever truly arises from self, other, both, and without cause, those are actually without inherent existence, like a lotus in the sky and so on. These statements about self-arising and other-arising are also similar to this, so in fact the pervading is invisible, because arising pervades the inherent nature of objects. For this, the thesis is contradicted by direct perception.

I do not think so, because it proves the absence of inherent existence in the ultimate sense. It is not manifestly evident that things exist in the ultimate sense with inherent existence. For example, if one assumes that the ultimate truth of externalists is the nature of a whole with limbs or the nature of an accumulation of atoms, the nature of both of these is not reasonable in manifestation either, since there is no experience of the manifestation of a whole with limbs other than the manifestation of limbs such as hands. Moreover, atoms are not suitable as objects of a consciousness with a coarse and uniform appearance, because they are different from it. Those who say that what is knowable is internal and that only non-dual consciousness is real, their view is also not established by direct perception, because we always experience consciousness appearing as grasper and grasped. If it were not so, everything would only be seeing that one consciousness, and therefore the effort of those who seek liberation to cultivate the noble path would become meaningless. Therefore, the Blessed One said: "The eye, ear, and nose are not valid cognizers, nor are the tongue, body, and mind. If these faculties were valid, what would the noble path do for anyone? Thus, these faculties are not valid, the nature of things is indeterminate. Therefore, whoever desires the path to nirvana should engage in the practice of the noble path." If all things are without inherent existence, then how is it not contradictory that they appear as blue, yellow, etc., in specific places and times? It is not contradictory, because false appearances also appear like images appearing in deluded consciousness. Just as the appearances appearing in deluded consciousness, although without inherent existence in the ultimate sense, still appear in specific places and times, others are also similar to this, so there is no contradiction. If the external object that appears as a double moon, etc., does not exist, and if the object that exists in another place and time does not have the nature related to the appearance of place and time, then how does it appear as the nature of that object?
