Those who wish to establish earth and other things as truly existent, how can they avoid becoming subject to faults such as permanence? Those who rely on things as being like the moon in water, considering them neither truly existent nor nonexistent, will not be robbed by the gods. If one acknowledges the existence of things, one will hold onto wrong views arising from attachment and hatred, and hold onto disputes arising from them. Thus it is said. Therefore, in order to refute those who cling to the literal meaning of teachings on the unborn and so forth, the Madhyamikas who criticize views on signs and so forth are not those who cling to the literal meaning of teachings on the unborn and so forth, because they acknowledge the unborn and so forth in the ultimate sense, and also speak of birth and so forth in the conventional sense. As it is said: To seek that very nature, one should first say that all exists. When one understands the meanings and is without attachment, later is complete quiescence. Those who do not understand the meaning of complete quiescence, but only engage in hearing, those inferior beings who do not accumulate merit will be destroyed. Actions together with their results, and beings, are also truly spoken of. The complete knowledge of its own nature, and the unborn, are also taught. Just as the victorious ones, the lords of the world, spoke of "I" and "mine," similarly, the aggregates, sense bases, and elements are taught according to need. Thus it is said. If that is the case, what about the statement in the Holy Lankavatara Sutra: "The imagined object has no existence, the dependent is also not existent, discrimination at the extremes of superimposition and denial will be destroyed"? How should this be interpreted? Here also, in order to refute those who truly superimpose on the imagined nature as previously described, it is said that the imagined object has no existence. Those who deny the conventional nature of dependence as previously described, therefore it is said that the dependent is existent. Whoever discriminates between these two extremes as previously described does not enter the Middle Way, because they abide in a precipitous place, like the aggregates, at the extremes of superimposition and denial.

, then the conceptual thoughts will cease." Thus it is said. This refutes the statement that "all dharmas are conceptual, their own nature is unborn, dependent on other conditions, and people's conceptual thoughts arise from this." This also eliminates the extremes of superimposition and defamation as previously mentioned. Just as, in terms of ultimate truth, how other conditions are unborn like conceptualizations, therefore it becomes that the very nature of conceptualization is unborn. This eliminates the extreme of superimposition. Other conditions arise in the relative truth, and relying on it, just as an illusion creates an illusion, other conceptual thoughts arise from this, therefore it is said: "Relying on other conditions, people's conceptual thoughts arise from this." Thus it is said. This eliminates the extreme of defamation, because it does not defame the arising of the relative truth. Therefore, from this and that perspective, what is shown as "the very nature of other conditions exists," and what is shown as "things arise," etc., all of these are to make children free from fear, and to abide from the perspective of the relative nature and arising, this is said with this intention, but not in terms of ultimate truth, because this has been prohibited in the sutra itself. Thus it is said. In the 《Holy Lankavatara Sutra》, it says: "If one observes with wisdom, then other conditions do not exist, and neither does conceptualization. If established things do not exist, how can wisdom conceptualize? Own nature does not exist, nor does consciousness, things do not exist, nor does the Alaya. Foolish children are like corpses, they conceptualize these with evil thoughts." Thus it is said. In the 《Holy Dharma Collection Sutra》, it also says: "Noble son, this world-dweller is attached to arising and ceasing, therefore, the Tathagata, the Great Compassionate One, in order to make the world free from fear, speaks of arising and ceasing from the perspective of names. Noble son, in this, no dharma exists that arises." Thus it is said. In the 《Holy Perfection of Wisdom Sutra》, it also says: "Venerable Sharadvatiputra, in that case, form is empty of its own nature.
