Concluding remarks. This was said by the teacher Asanga (Snang-bral) in the Essence of the Middle Way. Therefore, if someone says that the wisdom generated by the three characteristics of reason expresses the ultimate truth, then how can it be the ultimate truth, since it is also of the nature of conventional truth? If, by its power, things are established as being without inherent existence, then by whom is that established? It is not reasonable for it to be established by itself, because it is contradictory for oneself to act upon oneself. Nor is it established by another valid cognition, because that would lead to an infinite regress. If it is said that there is no other establisher except that wisdom alone, then all phenomena would not be proven to be without self. This objection has already been answered by this very point, because it is in accordance with the ultimate truth, and therefore it is the ultimate truth, and it is by that that the absence of inherent existence is established. There is no contradiction in oneself acting upon oneself, because in the nature of generality, all phenomena are established as being without inherent existence, and the self-nature of wisdom is also included in that general characteristic. For example, just as the reasons such as 'all phenomena exist' become the cause of destruction, but not by abandoning oneself, so here too, it is not permissible to argue. 'Non-arising, etc., are impossible.' This means that in the ultimate truth, it is impossible for knowledge and expressions such as non-arising to occur. Why? Because it negates its own nature. Finally, it is said that because the nature to be spoken of later is to be negated, therefore, in the ultimate truth, the application of words expressing it is impossible, and therefore non-arising, etc., are impossible. If it is thought that only non-existent things can be applied, then it is said, 'To non-existent things,' etc. Someone might think that even if there is no arising, etc., in the ultimate truth, wisdom can establish arising, etc., by following the speech of others, and by negating these, non-arising, etc., can be established. To this idea, it is said, 'Even if relying on conceptualization,' etc. If it is admitted that non-arising, etc., depend on conceptualization, then arising

Non-existence and so on are conventional, not ultimate truth, because conceptualization is the nature of convention, and the object of conceptualization is also the nature of superimposition, how can it be ultimate truth? The fourth chapter is completed. If it says "its own nature" and so on, even if it depends on conceptualization, it will become conventional, but it is not real. This is explained together with the previous view. The conceptualization that arises from the habit that has no beginning time, what is the aspect that appears to it, this is the combination of words. In order to show this, it is said "abiding in this Dharma nature" and so on. If the aspect that appears to conceptualization is blocked, then all terms will be cut off. The answer is given through "conceptualization also" and so on. The meaning is that if the aspect that appears to the wisdom of conceptualization is unborn and so on, then, since there is no difference between appearance and wisdom, it is also like the falsehood shown above by analyzing the nature of consciousness, how can it be ultimate truth? Even if wisdom is considered to be true, the nature of the aspect that appears to it is all false, therefore, unborn and so on are also false. In order to show this, it is said "also, even so". "Also" refers to stating another answer. Saying "it is said" refers to what the noble Nagarjuna said. In order to show that the absence of the king's measurement and so on has become another real thing, it is said "so", this is what the young Mara said. Therefore, the four kinds of non-existence are only transformed into other real things. Among them, having the nature of milk and so on, the nature of yogurt and other fruits did not exist before, it is called "non-existence". The existence of yogurt and other fruits is also the disappearance of the cause of milk and so on. The special limb on the rabbit's head, that is, the rabbit's horn, is completely non-existent. The absence of the nature of horses and so on in cows and so on is called "mutual absence".
