The Difficult Points of the Ornament of the Middle Way. The Difficult Points of the Ornament of the Middle Way. In Indian language: Madyalamkara Panjika. In Tibetan: The Difficult Points of the Ornament of the Middle Way. Volume One. Homage to youthful Manjushri. Whoever, with incomparable diligence, perfectly benefits self and others, to that one who has reached all the perfections, having paid homage, I will explain the Ornament of the Middle Way. Having faith in a virtuous object is the primary cause for obtaining all that is good, so in order to generate faith in others towards the Bhagavat, the source of immeasurable jewels of incomparable virtue, one first pays homage by praising their qualities as they are. The words "whoever" and so on are mentioned, as this verse shows that the Bhagavat's own nature of great qualities is complete. Having heard that, those who follow with faith for a while will quickly generate faith in them without doubt. Those who follow the Dharma also do not see harm in such things, and having realized the distinction and superiority of qualities such as wisdom through familiarity, they will surely believe that such scholars exist, and thus generate faith in them. For the sake of generating faith in them, those who desire their qualities first show respect by examining their scriptures and the treatises based on the scriptures, for the purpose of upholding them. After that, one will obtain excellent virtue through the gradual arising of wisdom from hearing and so on. Therefore, having faith in those who possess qualities is the primary cause of all that is good. Its own nature is also a branch of entering into it, so most treatise writers make offerings at the beginning of the treatise. Its own nature, the one who wishes to write a treatise, in order to know the great nature of his own teacher, it is said that the treatise writer composes a homage to him. Among them, whoever, who, those who dwell on the earth, should be connected with paying homage to them. Although it has been said in general, it is the Buddha Bhagavat.

It is evident that only the past ones possess these qualities. Because others do not have the qualities mentioned above. Therefore, in order to establish that the Blessed Ones are worthy of reverence, their qualities should be declared as they are. These qualities are also shown here as two types, distinguished by the perfection of self-benefit and the benefit of others. The perfection of self-benefit is also divided into two types, distinguished by the perfection of cause and effect. The perfection of cause is also divided into two types, distinguished by near and far causes. The perfection of effect is also divided into two types, distinguished by the perfection of wisdom and abandonment. The perfection of benefiting others also abides in the distinction of ensuring that others definitely attain goodness and increase. This should be applied from the explanation of the limbs. All these perfections of qualities are the reason why the Blessed Ones are superior to outsiders, learners, and great non-learners. Therefore, it is shown that only they are truly worthy of reverence, and not others. The meaning of the limbs should be explained: those who possess pure and stable wisdom are called that. Among them, purity is because of being free from all defilements such as desire. This distinguishes it from those in other traditions who are free from desire and from learners. For example, how can those outsiders whose minds possess all kinds of inverted views, which are the root of all afflictions, and who have not abandoned all bonds such as desire, become those with pure minds? And how can those learners whose minds are defiled by all the defilements that are to be abandoned through cultivation, become those with pure minds? Stability is because the cause of inconsistency in body, speech, and mind is not moved by the winds of non-afflictive habitual tendencies. This distinguishes it from the non-learners, because they have not abandoned these (habitual tendencies). This fully shows the perfection of abandonment. The phrase "abiding on the ground" implies that it is for the benefit of beings.
