However, the function of dependent origination, which is well-known even to cowherds, is merely due to the mode of expression, and is called conventional speech, which are two speculations. If it is like the first view, then it is harmed by direct perception and so on. Because the terminology of sound is merely the object of generality, it is not the object of the characteristic of dependent origination. If that generality is also the nature of the completely imputed, because there is no thing, if it is accepted as its nature, it will deny the function of things that is very famous, because generality cannot function. If it is like the second view, then the other party raises the question with the thought that there is a dispute over the name, saying "if". If it is examined by valid cognition, if these dependent origination things are established as their own nature, then at that time, if it is called conventional speech, it will become a dispute over the name. When examined by one and many, etc., if the nature of these things does not abide, then at that time, if it is called conventional speech, it is only abiding, how can it become names, etc.? Because seeing is experienced by eye consciousness and so on. Desire is certain as it is experienced. Those who are happy alone without examination are called that. If there is no examination, it is a synonym for happiness. The so-called true conventional is because it is examined closely as it is known. Realizing beyond what is known, such as realizing Ishvara, etc., is false conventional. As it is said, "What is dependent origination?" To this, the previous teachers also imitated. This was said by the venerable Nagarjuna in the Treatise on the Middle Way. Merely the things of dependent origination, because they are devoid of the nature of ultimate truth, are emptiness, not because they are like the nature of a rabbit's horn. Therefore, it is not contradictory to seeing and so on. That is established as a cause.

That is, what is called "is" is synonymous with "conventional truth itself." The words "as cause" and "imputation" are synonyms for conventional truth. This is the source here. What is called "that itself is the Middle Way" is because it abandons the two extremes of superimposition and defamation. That itself is a synonym for the Middle Way spoken of from that and that place. Now, if things that arise dependently are called conventional truth only because they cannot withstand examination, then how is it said in the Sutra of the Holy Inexhaustible Intellect that it is the nature of the nominal term of conventional truth? If you think so, then the Sutra taught by the Holy Inexhaustible Intellect and so on are spoken. This has already shown that from those sutras, the nature of the nominal term of speech is also conventional truth, however, what we call true conventional truth is only shown by "how many worldly expressions there are in it." We do not deny the nature of the nominal term of speech, that is also a reversed conventional truth, so it shows. What is called "to be experienced" and "the nature of experience" are the nature of what is to be known and what knows. If you think about how that can be expressed by the words of nominal terms, then it is said "in order to fully grasp the establishment of action," nominal terms are what superimpose on what is to be known and the nature of what is to be known. What is called "this is knowing, this is to be known" is the basis of the nominal term of speech, therefore it is the action itself. What is called "because it is related to it" means "how many." Here, the meaning of "also" should also be examined. Therefore, the meaning is that all the sounds and indications of letters are all conventional truths, which is indicated by this sentence. Therefore, it also includes the indications of letters that come from the scriptures and the world. If it is not like that, some people will mistakenly think that only what is indicated by non-saints is conventional truth, but what is indicated by saints is not, because those are spoken truthfully, without reversal. What is called "that" is two ways, distinguished by the difference between correct and mental.
