That which is called 'not father' exists. The purpose of this treatise is to negate 'thisness' and 'otherness' for those who cling to 'self'. In order to explain the reason why it is not the basis for notions of permanence, etc., it is said, 'And why?' etc. 'That' refers to 'self'. 'This' also refers to 'self'. In order to show the scriptural source for 'no-self', it is said, 'As it is said,' etc. 'Protector of the world' refers to the protector of all the worlds, that is, the Victorious Buddha Bhagavan. What are the four? It is said, 'All sentient beings,' etc. 'Buddha's teachings' refers to the ten powers, etc., which will be explained below. One might wonder, how is it that sentient beings, etc., are inexhaustible? Therefore, it is said, 'If,' etc. If sentient beings, etc., were to exist as substances, then at that time they would be exhausted. However, having shown that 'not born from self,' etc., are unborn from the very beginning, how then could these be exhausted? Thus, having shown that the object of notions of permanence, etc., is not 'self', in order to show that clinging to 'self' is the cause of bondage, and not clinging to 'self' is the cause of liberation, it is said, 'Whoever,' etc. 'Whoever' refers to 'self'. 'Searched for with seven aspects' refers to different and not different, and corresponding to that, and the two aspects of support and supported, and the collection of aggregates, and the collection of the shapes of aggregates, that is, with seven aspects. 'Whoever' refers to 'self'. 'Turns in samsara' refers to: If there is self, then one knows other; to self and other, there is clinging and attachment; from the connection of those two, all faults arise. In this way. 'This is self' refers to whatever clings to no-self as existing, which becomes the cause of samsara. 'The mind that always grasps at self for those who go,' refers to whatever, in all forms, the mind that grasps at self arises for those who go, one should understand that that is self. The mind that grasps at self arises in whatever that is.

The term "I" refers to the mind that arises from clinging to "I" in relation to any external or internal object that is related to that "I" in some way. If all things did not exist, how would the mind of clinging to "I" and the mind of "mine" arise? The answer is: it is due to ignorance, being well-known without investigation. It is said that this is due to a false term established without investigation due to not knowing. In order to explain it through interpretation, it is said, "Whatever," etc. The term "when completely searching" means when examining its own nature. In order to clarify this, it is said, "Tirthikas," etc. The term "inverted to its own nature" means inverted to the nature of self. Why? It is said, "It is unreasonable by its reasoning," which means that the "I" is unreasonable by the reasoning explained earlier. If it is said to be different from the aggregates, then "what" refers to clinging to the idea that "I" is different from the aggregates. The term "one's own party" refers to the Buddhists. If it is thought that the aggregates are impermanent, then how can the aggregates be "I"? The answer to this is, it is said, "Confusion," etc., which refers to mistaking the aggregates, which have no nature of "I," as the nature of "I." The term "this" refers to "I." The term "hundreds of thousands" is merely an approximate expression, meaning that many will be completely liberated. The term "that is I" means to know that "I" has such distinctions. In order to explain "wherever it is," it is said, "Where is this," etc. The term "this" refers to "I." The term "is it independent?" refers to sons and wives, etc., because they are under its control. The term "becoming some kind of relationship" refers to houses and wealth, etc., because they have a relationship with "I" and "mine." The term "this is the basis of imputation" refers to becoming the reason for imputing "I." The term "external" refers to sons, wives, and houses, etc. The term "it is not established by its own nature" means that it is not established by its own nature, because the nature is unreasonable by the reasoning explained earlier.
