Having grabbed hold, he began to jump off the cliff. The hunter, unable to stop him, thought that both would die, so he shot the child with an arrow, and he died. Furthermore, some powerful individuals extorted a pitiful child for a long time, and the weak one was completely oppressed, eventually dying. Moreover, a Bodhisattva born among lions, in order to liberate a large crowd of people completely encircled by a great serpent, sat on the head of an elephant and roared a great lion's roar. Hearing that sound, the great serpent, terrified, uncoiled its body, releasing most of the people. Also, another Bodhisattva, in order to completely liberate an allied army blocked by a lion, generated compassion for both the lion and the allies, and struck the lion's head with an arrow. The allies escaped and entered a cave. Similarly, a Bodhisattva named Great Compassion, who became a caravan leader, thought: These five hundred Bodhisattvas of the Fortunate Aeon are complete, and they intend to kill the riders and seize the goods. Having understood the intention of being hired to eliminate the riders and thousands of warriors, he thought: It is best for me to fall into the lower realms. If I kill these five hundred Bodhisattvas, I will have to remain in hell for five hundred aeons. Thus, generating great compassion, in order to bring happiness to them, he killed the caravan leader, the thief, with a short spear, and that root of virtue also turned his back on samsara for a thousand aeons. Therefore, the noble Nagarjuna said in the Collection of Bodhi: "Look upon the suffering of others, and dwell upwards! For the sake of the benefit and happiness of sentient beings, enduring the great suffering of hell, enlightenment is in his right hand." Similarly, when the Bhagavan Kashyapa was praised by the potter Bhumbhaka, the Bodhisattva who had become the blind Brahmin Nangkyon, in order to protect those five joyful Bodhisattvas who had become heretics, attaining great Bodhi is difficult, O Bhagavan.

After contemplating that which is inconceivable, he said, 'How could there be Bodhi in that bald-headed Shramana? Bodhi is extremely rare.' Therefore, Bodhisattvas who have fallen into some kind of despair may even commit non-virtuous deeds for the sake of sentient beings, and those non-virtuous deeds are transformed into goodness by the power of the mind. Here it is said: 'Great compassion arises for the cruel, and great love arises for the non-cruel. Therefore, for the supreme individuals, there is no door of sin.' From where are these Bodhisattvas called Bodhisattvas? From the first generation of mind called 'Extremely Joyful'. Here, there are two kinds of Bodhicitta: one is the manifest desire, and the other is the ultimate truth. Among them, the manifest desire starts from the desire for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, and it exists even in the state of ordinary beings. The ultimate truth has ten aspects, from the first generation of mind, the Joyful Ground, to the tenth generation of mind, the Cloud of Dharma Ground. Among them, in order to temporarily show the difference in the qualities of the first generation of mind of the Bodhisattvas, which is called 'Extremely Joyful', it is said: 'The first mind of the Bodhisattva, all beings on earth become wheels, their merits are superior.' If the merit of accumulating what makes one the wheel-turning king, the lord of the four continents, is already very great, then what need is there to say about the karma of all beings on earth becoming wheel-turning kings? The karma of all sentient beings becoming wheel-turning kings, the lords of the four continents, cannot even approach a fraction of the merit of the first generation of mind of the Bodhisattvas, let alone come close to it. Like this, it is the nature of the seed from which all collections of worldly and transmundane roots of virtue arise, and it exists in order to liberate sentient beings as long as samsara exists. And the merit of the wheel-turning king is only the cause of the manifest increase of happiness for some beings for a short time, so the difference is very great, like the liberation of the killer and the viewer.
