Ah! As long as there is clinging to the view of holding "I" and "mine," as long as there is clinging to the idea that there exists something called "nirvana," and as long as there is clinging to abandoning close attachments, etc., then, because this is not the method, all the efforts of those who seek nirvana will surely become meaningless. Therefore, those who desire liberation should completely abandon these. Because in every way, the ultimate truth, in which there is no arising of nirvana, nor is there the elimination of samsara. What is called "samsara"? And how should "nirvana" be examined? Because there is no clinging to the ultimate truth, there is no arising of nirvana, nor is there any fabrication of nirvana; nor is there the elimination of samsara, because the complete cessation of samsara also does not exist, then for the sake of ceasing what is it that one examines what samsara is? And what is that nirvana which is examined for the sake of attaining what? Or, because there is no clinging to either samsara or nirvana, therefore no sentient being is eliminated from samsara, that is, drawn away, and it is also impossible to strive to bring about nirvana, then what is there to examine about nirvana? There is nothing at all worth examining. Non-conceptualization will surely transcend the wilderness of samsara as previously stated, and will also reach the city of nirvana. Therefore, in the Sutra of the Noble Subduer of Mara, it says: Then, at that time, Manjushri Kumara saw the evil demon falling to the ground like being bound by the fetters of a threshold, and uttering cries of sorrow and lamentation: "I am bound by strong fetters! I am bound by strong fetters!" Manjushri said: Evil one, what is it that has always bound you, and not just now? Is there another fetter more binding than this fetter? And what is that? It is like this: the fetter of pride and perverted views, and the fetter of existence and views. Evil one, this is the fetter, there is no fetter more binding than this fetter. You have always been bound by that, and not just now.
