It exists. If not bound, there is no liberation, therefore bondage also exists. It should be said: If liberation itself exists, then bondage also exists, which is not true. Here, when contemplating liberation, one contemplates a state of being bound or unbound. If asked, what will happen from that? The answer is: Neither is reasonable. As it is said: For the time being, the bound will not be liberated, nor will the unbound be liberated. If the bound is being liberated, then bondage and liberation will occur simultaneously. Because, for the bound, there is no liberation, because they are bound. If the bound becomes liberated later through some means, will the bound itself be liberated? If so, then it should not be said "the bound is liberated," but rather "the goer is liberated." If it is said so because of the present and proximity, then if there is liberation occasionally, then at that time it will be close to liberation. When one wants liberation at any time, since it is impossible for the bound to be liberated, therefore wanting to show that there is no liberation, how can there be present and proximity at that time? Therefore, for the time being, it remains that "the bound will not be liberated." Now, the unbound will also not be liberated, because if it is liberation itself, then what use is liberation to it? Also, because of relying on liberation, for those Arhats who have attained liberation, there is still bondage, therefore Arhats will also be bound. Therefore, the unbound will also not be liberated. If one thinks that because it is impossible for the unbound to be liberated, therefore the bound itself will be liberated, if that is the case, then when contemplating the bound being liberated, because it is bound and is being liberated, then bondage and liberation will occur simultaneously. It is unreasonable for bondage and liberation to exist simultaneously, because they contradict each other, like light and darkness. Therefore, for the bound and the unbound, there is no liberation. Therefore, there is no liberation, and because there is no liberation, there is also no bondage, thus it is established. Here, if like this you have negated samsara and nirvana, and also negated bondage and liberation, then, oh, the wilderness of samsara!

O great wise one, because the darkness of ignorance is extremely thick, the vines of various evil views obstruct the sacred path with extreme rigidity. The fruits produced by the ripening of the poisonous tree of afflictions, such as birth, old age, sickness, and death, are endlessly numerous and extremely unpleasant, bestowing them in great quantities, thus being enveloped by the great mountain of the view of the perishable aggregates, which is extremely high with twenty peaks. It is as solid as a dam, surrounding from all directions. The abyss of the river of craving is vast. The shoals of hope for worldly happiness are extremely slippery and wide, constantly flowing and surrounding, desiring to transcend it. Those who desire liberation, if they do not generate a strong aspiration for virtuous Dharma and do not cling to self, will not attain nirvana. If someone thinks, 'When will nirvana become mine?' then such a thought will only become meaningless. Likewise, those who generate aspiration for virtuous Dharma, if they think that relying on virtuous friends, and the sequence of giving, discipline, hearing, thinking, and meditation, etc., which are necessary actions for attaining nirvana, are also meaningless, then they will be discouraged. It should be said: If all things are without inherent existence, like images, mirage water, fire wheels, dreams, illusions, and magic tricks, and are devoid of self and what belongs to self, yet still, because of pursuing inverted thoughts, they cling to self and what belongs to self, then this clinging to the view of the perishable aggregates will be strengthened. They will presumptuously say: 'I will enter nirvana without taking, and nirvana will become mine.' Therefore, those who cling to this, their grasping is a great clinging. 'I will enter nirvana without taking and free from taking, and nirvana will become mine.' Therefore, those who desire liberation but still cling, their grasping of the view of the perishable aggregates of self and what belongs to self is a great clinging. For those who are so strongly attached to great clinging, there is no peace, because liberation is attained only by completely abandoning all clinging.
