Whatever else is known and knowable, as well as valid cognition and the object of valid cognition, what is to be proven and what proves it, parts and what has parts, qualities and what has qualities, etc., to these also should be added the statement "there is no beginning." Precisely for this reason, in the Noble Cloud of Jewels Sutra it says: "When the wheel of Dharma turns, from the very beginning it is peaceful and unborn, the Dharmas of self and others' nirvana, the Protector has taught." This is the praise of the Bhagavan by the great Bodhisattva Sarvanivaranaviskambhin. Similarly, "From the very beginning, it is emptiness, and so are future Dharmas. What has passed has no place, and there is no place to abide. The nature of illusion is always without essence. Everything is pure and utterly pure like the sky. Whatever the Victorious Ones' Dharma is well taught, there too, it is not seen because it is inexhaustible. This Dharma has been without self and without sentient beings from the beginning, and even if they are well taught, they will not be exhausted. It is taught only by imputation, and no end is found in samsara. Whatever arises earlier has no characteristics, for the sake of knowing the future time, actions and deeds will proceed in that way, and they will arise in both the beginning and the end. All Dharmas are extremely foolish and empty in nature, and all should also be known as without self." And so on appears. In the Clear Words composed by the master Chandrakirti, the explanation of the eleventh chapter called "Analysis of the Beginning and the End" is completed. Here it is said: The self truly exists, because there is suffering related to it. Here, suffering refers to the five aggregates of appropriation. It also exists, and that suffering must also be transformed into something, because it cannot be without a basis. Therefore, suffering does have a basis, and that basis is the self. It should be said: If suffering itself exists, then the existence of the self is not necessary. Like this, if it exists, is it made by the self, or made by others, or made by both, or does it arise without a cause? Even if one wants to think so, in any case, it is not made. Because this has been explained. Some say that suffering is made by the self, made by others.

Or (self)-made, or (both)-made. It is believed to arise from no cause. That is not to be done. Thus it was said. To this, some opponents think: Suffering is made by me. Others think it is made by others. Still others think it is made by (both), and some think that suffering arises without cause. The desired suffering, in any case, should not be done, that is, should not be produced. In order to establish that this is only a vow, if it were made by me, then it should not arise dependently. Because these aggregates arise depending on these aggregates. Thus it was said. Among them, "made by me" means "I personally". If suffering were made by me, then the self-nature of suffering would create the self-nature of suffering. Why is it not arising from conditions? It means that it arises without relying on cause and condition, because there is self-nature. Because it is not existent, it does not make self-nature. This is also dependent arising, like this. Because these aggregates arise depending on these aggregates. Because, depending on these aggregates at the time of death, those aggregates belonging to the time of birth arise. Therefore, it is unreasonable to say that suffering is made by me. Now it is said that what is made by others is also non-existent. If this and that are different entities, if that and this are different entities, suffering becomes made by others, and those others make it. If these aggregates at the time of death become different entities from those aggregates belonging to the time of birth, and those belonging to the time of birth are different entities from these aggregates at the time of death, then at that time suffering becomes made by others. But in those (different entities), no otherness is seen, because there is no causal relationship. What arises depending on something is temporarily not that (dependent) itself, nor is it different from that (dependent), therefore.
