Also, it was taught that there is no self. It was also taught that there is neither self nor non-self. It should be connected in this way. The teacher Aryadeva also said: "Non-existence and existence and both, and neither of the two are taught; because of the power of disease, medicine becomes suitable." It was said like that. If it is said that it is not an answer because it is taught for the sake of ultimate truth, then, these are the words of the opponents who say: "That is the word of the Bhagavan who taught that there is a self for the sake of ultimate truth, because you have refuted it as non-existent, so there is no fault of abandoning the promise, so it is not an answer." These are the words they say. In order to answer what they said, explaining it here is not not answering, because the sutra says: "Here there is no self and no sentient being, these dharmas all have causes." And because you have not stated the inference that shows that it exists, and because I have shown the proof that can refute the self. Thus it is said, because the Bhagavan taught that there is no self for the sake of ultimate truth, and because you have not stated the inference that shows that the self exists, and because I have shown the proof that can refute the self. It does not violate the promise, so it is not unreasonable. In order to show that the meaning of the previous verse is explained in another way. Or, consider it in another way, some heretics think that if the aggregates are without self, each moment is in the nature of destruction, or those that must exist at other times, if there is no self, they will be considered to have no karma and no fruit, and therefore they are afraid, so they also think that there is a self, therefore, they also think that there is a self. It was said like that. Others think that this is only a collection of body, senses and mind, and in this, from cause and effect, whatever self can be recognized, its nature does not exist, because the aggregates that are considered as mind are without self, these that have not been determined as impermanent, samsara is also unreasonable, thus recognizing, they are confused about the connection of cause and effect. No matter how many objects of the senses there are, the person is only that much. Whatever is said by the blue, the well-heard, those are like the footprints of a jackal. Beautiful woman, good

enjoy and eat. The supreme body, you have passed away, and the terrible passing away will not return. This body is merely an aggregation, and those who say so also show that the body and faculties are without self. Therefore, it is also shown to be without self. Thus it is said. The Buddhas, the Bhagavat, who have unobstructed knowledge of all dharmas, have shown that neither self nor no-self exists. Therefore, the Buddhas have shown that neither self nor no-self exists. Thus it is said, meaning that they have perfectly understood the true nature of all dharmas, which is free from elaboration, and have abandoned the attachment to self and no-self, and know that there is no cause for the arising of discrimination between self and no-self. Thus considering, it is said that because they do not attend to forms, etc., due to the imputation of self and no-self. Thus it is said, meaning that some non-Buddhists who speak of self show that there is a self, and the worldly Lokayatas show that there is no self, but the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, have shown that neither self nor no-self exists. Thus it is said. To show the source of that, in the Sutra Requested by Subhuti, the Mother Bhagavat Prajnaparamita, which completely subdues with the power of great wisdom, it is said, "How is it that Subhuti completely subdues with the power of great wisdom? Form is neither self nor no-self. Likewise, feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness are also neither self nor no-self. Form, feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness, whatever is neither self nor no-self, that is Prajnaparamita." Thus it is said. It is said that elaboration will cease through emptiness. How will it cease through emptiness? Thus, this should be explained. As previously stated, liberation comes from the exhaustion of karma and afflictions. Karma and afflictions arise from discrimination. Those elaborations arise from elaboration. Elaboration will cease through emptiness. Thus it is said, showing the reason for that. Therefore, here, what is to be said, what is imputed by discrimination, is the nature of what is said.
