When attachment is exhausted, because there is no taker and nothing to be taken, the four types of clinging also cease. When clinging ceases, existence ceases. When existence ceases, birth is exhausted, and that is called liberation. That is the fruit of realizing the selflessness of persons. To explain that in detail, if the clinging to "itself" and "mine" regarding both internal and external phenomena is exhausted, then the four types of clinging, namely desire, views, ethical discipline, asceticism, and the assertion of self, will cease. Among them, by temporarily seeing selflessness, one will abandon the clinging to the assertion of self. Having abandoned it, one will also abandon the remaining clinging, because they are the source of the clinging to the assertion of self. Because clinging ceases, the existence arising from its source also ceases. When that ceases, birth ceases, and that is called liberation. This is the fruit of realizing the selflessness of persons. To show that, it is also said that liberation is also that of the noble hearers and solitary Buddhas because they see the selflessness of persons. The vehicle of the Buddhas is attained by practitioners who have abandoned the obscuration of afflictions and the obscuration of knowledge. The methods for abandoning the obscuration of afflictions are those that have been shown as before. Therefore, the liberation of the Buddhas themselves is attained by abandoning the two obscurations, which is specifically pointed out. The methods for abandoning the obscuration of afflictions are also common to all three vehicles, which are those that have been shown up to this point. In this way, by temporarily refuting the arguments stated by others and showing one's own faultless arguments, the selflessness of persons is shown. Now, by refuting the arguments stated by others and showing one's own faultless arguments, the selflessness of phenomena will be shown. Through the selflessness of phenomena, the obscuration of knowledge can be abandoned, and supreme wisdom can be attained, therefore that is for the hearers and so on.
