The refutation of the aggregates has been shown. Thus, for the time being, from the ultimate point of view, it is not appropriate for formations, sentient beings, and persons to wander in samsara, as stated earlier. If formations wander, then if they are permanent, they will not wander; if they are impermanent, they will not wander either. The same applies to sentient beings. This is a summary of what was said before. Thus, for the time being, if we examine the way in which the valid arguments have been presented, then, from the ultimate point of view, the formations examined by the Hearers, the sentient beings examined by the non-Buddhists, and the persons examined by the Vatsiputriya school are not appropriate to wander in samsara. Therefore, in the first chapter, the opponents say that, from the ultimate point of view, internal entities have inherent existence because they are bound. Since the reason for this argument is not established, it is established that, from the ultimate point of view, internal entities do not have inherent existence. Now, previously the opponents said that, from the ultimate point of view, internal entities have inherent existence because they have liberation. In order to show that this argument is not established, now it is said, even if there is a nirvana, would any of them enter into nirvana? That is to say, even if there is liberation and nirvana as the opponents wish, would any of the formations, sentient beings, and persons enter into nirvana? It shows that everything is inappropriate. If one thinks that, from the ultimate point of view, formations enter into nirvana, then it is not appropriate in any way for formations to enter into nirvana. Why is it not appropriate for formations to enter into nirvana? Because they have not arisen from the ultimate point of view. Here, if formations are permanent or impermanent, would they enter into nirvana? First of all, the permanent does not enter into nirvana, because even in conventional terms, the permanent is not established. In order to show that the impermanent does not enter into nirvana either, from the ultimate point of view, impermanent things should not enter into nirvana, because they are impermanent. For example, like external things and so on. These are the subject, the property to be proven, the proof, and the example, and they are applied in order. For example

Just as external earth and so on are not suitable for liberation from sorrow because of impermanence, so too, impermanent conditioned phenomena are not suitable for liberation from sorrow because of impermanence. If it is said that sentient beings can be liberated from sorrow, then sentient beings being liberated from sorrow is not suitable in any way. The meaning of "thoroughly examining permanence or impermanence" is that thoroughly examining whether sentient beings are permanent or impermanent also shows that it is not suitable for liberation from sorrow. In order to show that permanence is also not suitable for liberation from sorrow, therefore, first it is said that permanence cannot be liberated from sorrow because it has no cause, like space. Apply these in order to the subject, the property to be proven, the proving property, and the example. For example, just as space cannot be liberated from sorrow because it has no cause, so too, permanent sentient beings cannot be liberated from sorrow because they have no cause. In order to show another reason for this, having no cause is because it is not known to exist, like the son of a barren woman, because liberation cannot be attained by inferring permanence and having no cause, in order to eliminate that, for the tenet that speaks of permanence, there is the fault of eliminating the difference of the subject. In order to show that impermanent sentient beings also cannot be liberated from sorrow, therefore, impermanence also cannot be liberated from sorrow, in reality, whatever is impermanent cannot be liberated from sorrow, because it is impermanent. Like external earth and so on. Apply these also in order to the subject, the property to be proven, the proving property, and the example. For example, just as external earth and so on cannot be liberated from sorrow because they are impermanent, so too, impermanent sentient beings cannot be liberated from sorrow because they are impermanent. In order to show another reason for this, here too, liberation cannot be attained by inferring impermanence, in order to eliminate that, for the tenet that speaks of sentient beings as impermanent, there is the fault of eliminating the difference of the subject. The Sthavira school does not say that a person should be spoken of as permanent or impermanent, therefore there is no fault as mentioned above, so sorrow
