, and what is the basis of purification, that is born from other causes and conditions, because it is not born from its own nature, therefore it is without nature by the nature of being without inherent existence in birth. Being without nature by the very nature of being without ultimate nature is called the perfectly established nature, which is the suchness of all phenomena, which is also ultimate and without nature. For this, by the absence of ultimate nature, it is without nature by the very nature of being without ultimate nature. Thus, these three natures are without nature in sequence by these three natures of being without nature, so all natures are not without nature by all natures of being without nature. The imputed nature is not visible because it is completely non-existent due to the nature of being without characteristic nature. Although the dependent nature is already without nature due to the nature of being without inherent existence in birth, it does not exist in either the defiled or purified states of the cause of conceptualization and action. When one clings to it as appearing to be the imputed nature, then all objects of focus will not be pacified, and therefore it will become defiled. When one does not cling to it as appearing to be the imputed nature, then all objects of focus will be pacified, and therefore it will become purified, and because of realizing the perfectly established nature, it will not be differentiated, and it will not be reversed, the perfectly established nature is suchness, and correct wisdom, which is the nature of self-awareness of each noble being, is truly existent in the ultimate truth. The Madhyamika should not say that the dependent nature, which is the means to realize it, does not exist. In order to show the detailed explanation of it, it is said that when the imputed nature is non-existent and invisible, and the dependent nature is not held as a cause, and therefore is not seen as truly existent, then all objects of focus will be pacified. Therefore, it is said that when yogis consider the imputed nature to be non-existent like a flower in the sky.

Not apprehending, and not holding the nature of other-powered nature as the reason for the imputed nature, at that time, not truly observing in the manner of not manifestly clinging to the imputed nature, at that time, one realizes the thoroughly established nature, so that is the pacification of all objects of focus, it is truly existent, they say. To answer what they say, here the commentator examines this together with them, saying "should be examined." So, does merely showing these three natures become the pacification of all objects of focus? Or, by establishing the two truths in the manner of dependent arising, thereby in the ultimate sense, all things become the pacification of all objects of focus by being without self-nature, this should be examined with reason and scripture, thus it shows. Regarding this, what are the characteristics of the three natures accepted by the Yogācāras? How should these three natures be examined as without self-nature by the three selflessnesses? Regarding this, in order to show the first examination, it says, "So, what is the so-called imputed nature? Its nature, in terms of selflessness, how is it without self-nature?" If it is said that the imputed nature is the conceptual thought that names the nature and differences of phenomena, such as, conceptual thought about nature is conceptual thought about form and feeling, etc. Conceptual thought about difference is conceptual thought about visible and invisible, etc., thus the Yogācāras have shown the nature of the imputed nature. Among them, conceptual thought about nature is that the nature of form, feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness is changeable, experiencing, taking signs, manifestly forming, and able to recognize. The nature of earth, water, fire, and wind is hard, moist, warm, and light and moving, etc., with names and

What is the imputation of terms and conceptualization? In particular, conceptualization is that form is indicable and non-indicable, obstructive and non-obstructive. Feeling is pleasure, pain, and neither pain nor pleasure. Perception is small, large, and becomes immeasurable. Volition is that which is concordant and discordant with mind. Consciousness is the arising from the proximate cause, the receiver, and the determination, etc., are names, what is the imputation of terms and conceptualization? The nature and especially those two conceptualizations are also the cause of actions produced by other powers, and the objects of conceptualization, universal affliction, and purification, are the nature of suddenly adding on to the object. That is the characteristic of the completely imputed. Because that characteristic is without self-nature, non-self-nature means that it is not included among the five causes, etc. Yogis say that the nature of the completely imputed, because that characteristic is without self-nature, how is it without self-nature? The nature of the completely imputed is the cause of the five objects such as form, whatever is agreeable and disagreeable, etc. For those causes, one does not grasp as a sign, nor does one perceive the nature of the object, one does not grasp as an appearance, nor does one perceive the difference of the object. Thus, one does not grasp the nature and difference of the object as a sign and appearance. Because one does not perceive the object, the consciousnesses that grasp and enter into those objects do not arise, which is called not being included among the five causes, etc. Therefore, it is the characteristic of non-self-nature. Or, not being included among the five causes, etc., refers to the five dharmas, namely cause, name, conceptualization, true wisdom, and suchness, etc. Among these, the non-self-nature of the completely imputed, although it is encompassed by name, but because of the non-self-nature of the characteristic self-nature, the name itself is the cause.
