Therefore, from that classification, it can also be said to be without inherent existence. Because the substance of the body has inherent existence, therefore from that classification, it can also be said to be with inherent existence. Therefore, the aspect of having inherent existence and not having inherent existence, which we speak of, is applicable to inherent existence. If you say that inherent existence is not applicable to having inherent existence and not having inherent existence, we do not have such a fault. To refute this statement, it is said again: Having inherent existence, apart from not having inherent existence, will not apply to others either. This verse is also repeated. The view of speaking of two aspects is also unreasonable, why? Because it is impossible to have an entity with both natures. Because in the world, two mutually incompatible entities are not seen to exist in the same place. For example, it is impossible to have a crow that is half-dead and half-alive, similarly, it is impossible to have an entity that is both with inherent existence and without inherent existence. If the opponent says, although it is impossible for two incompatible entities to exist in the same place, like a crow that is half-dead and half-alive, it is possible to determine an entity with both natures by relying on relative relations. For example, relative to the son, it is the father, and relative to the father, it is the son, similarly, here also, relative to the state of life, it is without inherent existence, and relative to the state of the body, it is with inherent existence, so there is no fault. To answer the question raised earlier by the opponent, here is the explanation: The certainty of relying on relativity will also be refuted from below in the analysis of fire and firewood. It will be said below: If firewood is relative to fire, if fire is relative to firewood, then relative to what, fire and firewood, which one is established first? Just like that, here also, if relative to life, the body is with inherent existence, and relative to the body, life is without inherent existence, then relative to what, life is without inherent existence, and the body is with inherent existence, which of these two will be established first? Because it will not be established, so that is also unreasonable.

Furthermore, if the fault of pointing out both cases is doubled, then it is also unreasonable. Previously it was said: "Without characteristic, there is no characteristic, Nor is it for those with characteristic." Because these two faults will be pointed out and understood here, the view of those who say there are two cases is also unreasonable. Others say: "Without characteristic, there is no characteristic, Nor is it allowed." Because of this, there is no object without characteristic, therefore, if there is no object without characteristic, then characteristic should not apply to things without a basis. "For those with characteristic, there is no characteristic." Regarding this, characteristic should not apply to objects with characteristic either, because there is no need. It is said that the elder Buddhapālita, who explains this verse, explains it in this way. "That is unreasonable," this sentence is the explainer refuting the elder Buddhapālita's explanation as unreasonable. Regarding this, the elder Buddhapālita explained that because there is no object without characteristic, therefore, if there is no object without characteristic, then characteristic should not apply to things without a basis, how can this explanation be unreasonable? Therefore, if there is characteristic, then the absence of it in relation to it is unreasonable, and similarly, because there is a basis for characteristic. The reason you say that there is no basis for characteristic is because you admit that there is an object of characteristic. In this way, if you admit that there is an object of characteristic, then characteristic should not apply to the basis of characteristic that truly has characteristic, therefore characteristic will exist, and similarly, if there is characteristic, then the basis of characteristic will also exist, therefore that is unreasonable. The elder Buddhapālita explained that characteristic should not apply to objects with characteristic either, because there is no need, how can this explanation be reasonable?
