The meaning of "contradiction" is synonymous with "opposition." Thus, in the case of the consciousness of form, inferring non-reality from the appearance of what is to be grasped as the appearance itself, and inferring non-reality itself from the appearance itself, it is contradictory because it eliminates reality and establishes the opposite of the nature of the subject. Here, the proposition is that the consciousness of form is not real. Regarding this, what is the consciousness of form, and how does it become unreal? Through direct perception, scripture, and worldly convention, the consciousness of form is indeed real. Therefore, by eliminating non-reality with reality, it contradicts inference. The statement, "Seeing that which is perfectly accomplished, viewing the nature of its essence," also has this flaw. If one focuses on the essence, then the enlightenment of the teacher becomes conceptual, and it also becomes an object-possessing consciousness, and it does not become non-conceptual wisdom. The so-called "Tathagatas should realize the perfectly accomplished essence through individual self-awareness," if one focuses on this essence that does not conform to the literal meaning, if there is even a little such essence, if one focuses on that essence, then the enlightenment wisdom of the teacher, the Tathagata, will become conceptual, because enlightenment is considered to be non-conceptual. If one focuses on that object, it will also become object-possessing, so it will not achieve objectlessness, because enlightenment is considered to be objectless. If one conceptually distinguishes that essence as being without essence, it will not become non-conceptual wisdom. Thus, the words are connected. Similarly, if one proposes, "This triple world is only mind; there are no external objects," then there is also: If one does not grasp objects in mind-only, and does not take form, etc., then it contradicts the promise and convention, harming the proposition. The so-called contradiction by promise is contradictory to the scripture that says, "Depending on the eye and forms, etc., eye consciousness arises." The so-called contradiction by convention is that in the world, if there are no external objects such as forms, then eye consciousness, etc., does not arise, thus contradicting convention. Here it is said that even without external objects such as forms, consciousness can arise.

It is considered so. Because such appearances arise, for example, like the arising of thoughts of form etc. in a dream, if you say so. In order to refute it, it is said: Because such appearances arise, like thoughts of form etc. in a dream, form etc. are meaningless, and cannot be called consciousness. This is called, therefore, the subsequent inference spoken by others is not good. Why? Because the consciousness of dreams etc. is focused on the Dharma, therefore there is no metaphor, and it will slander the object. This is called, from beginningless time, the eye of consciousness imbued with the habits of taking and abandoning sees the forms etc. in dreams, it is seen, not unseen. The consciousness of dreams etc. is with an object, because what was seen before etc. is clearly stated, like remembrance etc. Even if the density of the blind person's eyes disappears, in other lives, by the power of the habits of seeing, many colors and shapes appear differently in dreams, so his consciousness is not without an object. For example, the blind person Shanhu sees those forms in dreams with the eyes of consciousness, but not with the physical eyes, just as it is said. Because the eye of consciousness is focused on the Dharma, the consciousness of dreams etc. is also with an object, so your proposition will become the fault of having no metaphor. Because it eliminates the things of the meaning of form etc., it is also slandering the object. You say that consciousness appears as two, appearing as self, and the appearance of consciousness as the appearance of external objects, which completely becomes the object of consciousness appearing as self, if you say so, therefore it is said: If you think that appearing as an object is the object of the mind, what else is the nature of the mind besides appearing as an object? This is called, like this, we think that the arising of appearing as the object of form etc. is the nature of consciousness, appearing as the object
