One should abide in such a nature. The Great Mother Prajnaparamita Sutra says: The mind is not the mind, because the nature of the mind is luminosity. It also says: Whatever is without mind is inconceivable. Alternatively, all phenomena are gathered into the mind, the mind is gathered into the body, and the body is gathered into the dharmadhatu, and then dissolves. The meaning of this is also from the mouth of the teacher: From beginning to end, the Madhyamaka school believes that the world arises from conceptualization, conceptualization arises from the mind, and the mind also arises from the body. Therefore, one should contemplate on the body. One should abide in such a meaning. Do not abide in any occasion or knowledge. Do not think of anything. Have no thought. Do not abide in any extreme. Knowledge is not born in any essence. Meditate on being nothing. The discriminating wisdom itself is also without appearance. For example, when two pieces of wood are rubbed together vigorously, fire arises and the wood is burned. When the wood is burned, the fire itself dies out. Similarly, knowledge itself also disappears. The meaning of this comes from the Sutra Requested by Arya Odshrung, and also from the Arya Dense Array Sutra: Just as a burning fire cannot exist without fuel, so too, if the fuel of views is burned, the fire of emptiness will also cease. At the time of stopping views, the fire of wisdom will not arise, it burns all afflictions, and when afflictions are burned, it becomes beautiful. The Great Blissful One also said: The pile of firewood of views, burned by the fire of emptiness, abides in peace, and the fire of Suchness also ceases. Thus, the coarse yoga has been taught. Now, the subtle yoga will be taught. This is the subtle yoga. How do all phenomena appear as mere illusions of one's own mind? Like this, the mind is merely an illusion, transcending the three times, without color or shape, naturally luminous, because there is no appearance, so one should know that all phenomena are illusions of the mind. There is also scriptural evidence, such as in the Holy Lankavatara Sutra: Relying on mind-only, do not discriminate external objects, in Suchness.

Relying on, one should also transcend mere mind. Once one has transcended mere mind, one will abide in non-appearance. The yogi who abides in non-appearance, he will see the Great Vehicle. Thus it is said. The noble song-accomplisher, as well as the teacher Āryadeva, and the teacher venerable Chandrakīrti, have said as follows: Like this, speaking of the conventional truth in the manner of the Śrāvakas is the coarse Madhyamaka of the outsiders. And abiding in one's own mere mind is called the subtle inner Madhyamaka. The meaning of what was said in detail is as follows: As the teacher said: Here, there is no arising whatsoever, there is no ceasing whatsoever. The nature of mind abides thus, the dharmas themselves should be known. The eye and so on, and the objects themselves, are the five wisdoms themselves. Differentiating between outer and inner, everything is not other than mind. Like this, he said a lot. The teacher Āryadeva said: External objects do not exist, one's own mind will be seen. That too should be meditated on as illusion, and thusness should also be recollected. He also said: The five forms and the twelve sense bases, and the eighteen elements as explained, the five consciousnesses and all beings, everything is one's own mind, not other. Any eight mountains and eight oceans, continents and so on, and hells and so on are distinguished, whatever is seen as permanent and impermanent, everything is mind, not other. Thus he said a lot. The teacher Chandrakīrti also said: Therefore, objects like external objects are not found and do not exist, because they are the nature of mind. Also, all dharmas do not abide outside of mind, whatever appears like a cataract, all of that is one's own mind, there is nothing other than one's own mind. He also said: If one says that there are things different from mind, then it is called no-dharma. Thus he spoke extensively. Here the verses are: Just as from the lotus root (藏文:ཨུཏྤལ་རྩ་བ་,梵文天城体:उत्पल मूल,梵文罗马拟音:utpala mūla,汉语字面意思:lotus root), leaves and so on continuously arise, likewise, mind is without substance, and also abides in the essence of all dharmas. Its meaning is this: Lotus.

Its root is not connected to anything else, it abides in the nature of water, and the root has nowhere to penetrate, yet just as a very vast lake is able to be covered with leaves and flowers, so too, although the mind has no substance, it abides in conventional truth as the essence of all phenomena, internal and external. It is also said: Like the Saluka grass in the water, it pervades everything even without roots. The nature of the rootless mind also abides pervading up to the edge of space. The meaning of this is: lakes and water grass, a certain grass called Saluka are interconnected, and a yellow flower is born covering the water grass, but it has no roots to penetrate. Similarly, just as the mind is rootless, it abides as the essence of all phenomena as far as the sky pervades. The venerable teacher Aryadeva also said: Thus, the nature of one's own mind, all sentient beings without exception, from the consciousness of liberation, the object of existence, any sentient being, does not revolve in the great ocean of suffering of existence, has crossed beyond all conditioned things, to that one I pay homage and prostrate. Thus he said. The teacher of teachers also said in the ultimate sense in the song of reason: One's own mind is the seed of all, in which existence and sorrow flow, able to give the desired fruit, I pay homage to the mind like a wish-fulfilling jewel. Thus it is said, therefore, all of samsara and nirvana should be known to be like illusions of the mind. Therefore, those many great treatises that I have composed should be known as external Madhyamaka. Refuting other tenets, and the treatises of great treatises, when great disputes arise, one should speak the Madhyamaka treatises of reason. That is what is important for the meaning, and when practicing yoga, one should practice subtle yoga. This is the oral instruction. The oral instruction of those venerable ones is this: In conventional truth, by the power of space and the four habitual tendencies, the mind is like an illusion, without substance, the nature of falsehood appears externally and internally, I and so on, aggregates and so on, there is nothing at all. In the ultimate sense, the illusion of the mind, from the beginning unarisen, without needing to be removed, without needing to be established, should also be known to be like this. It is not established by the vast collections of reasoning.
