Now, I will explain how the realm of phenomena is completely defiled and purified by afflictions. The realm of phenomena is not to be spoken of as being afflicted or not afflicted, because there is a temporary stain of affliction. The water element, gold, and the sky, etc., are considered to be as pure as purity itself. If you ask, how is it that it is not to be spoken of as being afflicted or not afflicted? If afflictions did not exist, all sentient beings would be liberated. If complete purity did not exist, effort would be fruitless. Or, it is neither afflicted nor unafflicted, neither pure nor impure. Because the nature of mind is self-luminous, afflictions are temporary. This is not logical, and those who claim to have a "self" also say this. If afflictions were not "self," all sentient beings would be liberated. If complete purity were not "self," effort would be fruitless. Therefore, for the time being, there exists a permanent, pure, and non-acting "self," but samsara and liberation also exist, because it is possible to refute in this way. Therefore, the means of concealing the faults of one's own philosophical system is not feasible and cannot be established. Furthermore, just as water and other things rely on causes and conditions to produce differences, the conventional consciousness, relying on afflicted and unafflicted things, arises together with afflictions, and arises together with non-inverted consciousness in the absence of afflictions, and is capable of becoming the subject of complete affliction and complete purification, therefore, the realm of phenomena is not produced together with afflictions and consciousness, just like water and other things. Likewise, suchness should not become completely afflicted and completely purified. If it is said, can smoke and dust, etc., exist and not exist, and can the sky be said to be with or without stains? No, because the existence of the sky as a real entity is itself negated. Even if it exists as a real entity, being stained and unstained cannot be established, because there is no birth and death, like the realm of phenomena. Or, the sky is stained

Just as smoke disappears, in the realm of Dharma, due to the separate observation of all afflictions and complete purification, the desired meaning is lost. Regarding the statement "aiming at all afflictions," there is also the same fault of the previous commitment argument. Then, how is its arising without own-nature? If it is said that it arises by the power of conditions, and does not arise by itself, then, from the perspective of ultimate truth, how does it arise by the power of conditions? Does it arise from its own nature? Does it arise from the things of others? Does it arise from both? Does it arise from what exists? Does it arise from what does not exist? Or does it arise from what exists and does not exist? No matter how you say it, because in the way previously stated, it does not arise, it is difficult to explain that it arises by the power of conditions. If, like the arising of illusion, etc., generally speaking, it is not a truly existent arising, then this is establishing conventional truth. Arising by the power of conditions, like illusion, etc., shows that it does not arise from its own nature, and this is also in accordance with the Madhyamaka's statement. Because the view of the Madhyamaka's treatises is: "Whatever arises dependently, is said to be emptiness." Because things do not arise from themselves. If it is said that not arising from its own nature is own-naturelessness itself, because the Sutra Pitaka says: "Whatever arises from conditions, is unborn." This is in accordance with the Sutra Pitaka's statement. If this is the case, this is also in accordance with the Madhyamaka's statement, because it prevents it from arising from its own nature. How can a yogi not grasp other-powered own-nature as a reason, and therefore not see reality as it is? If it is said that what appears is not as it is, then why is it not so? If it is said that because from the perspective of ultimate truth, it does not arise in that way, then this is in accordance with the Madhyamaka's statement. If it is said that what arises is not as it is, because it arises dependently, like illusion, etc., then, if this is the case, then other-poweredness also does not exist. This is also in accordance with the Madhyamaka's statement, because the Madhyamaka's statement is: "Like a dream, like an illusion, a mirage,
