In order to accomplish the attainment of Nirvana, it should be understood that the existence of inherent nature is in accordance with reason. Because there is no commitment to the non-inherent nature of all phenomena, there is no fault in the pledge. There is also no fault of having loopholes, because children in the womb, etc., are not established as metaphors in the ultimate sense. Furthermore, how is it realized that all phenomena are without inherent nature? If all these are empty, there will be no arising and no destruction. From abandoning and cessation, what Nirvana do you want to attain? Just like this, it is the same for realizing phenomena as inherent nature. If all these are not empty, there will be no arising and no destruction. From abandoning and cessation, what Nirvana do you want to attain? Because inherent nature has no change, abandoning and cessation are unreasonable, therefore, it is unreasonable to fully see the reality for the inherent nature of not fully seeing the reality. Therefore, for those who speak of the existence of inherent nature, it is difficult to show that there is the attainment of Nirvana. For those who do not have inherent nature, it is possible to attain Nirvana, just like the extinguishing of a magical lamp. By inferring that Nirvana can be attained, because the non-existence of inherent nature refutes the existence of inherent nature, there is a fault in the pledge of refuting the inherent nature of the Dharma. Or, the opponent argues: If all these are empty, there will be no arising and no destruction. Therefore, from abandoning and cessation, what Nirvana do you want to attain? If you want these conditioned phenomena to attain Nirvana, then it should be known that these conditioned phenomena truly exist in the ultimate sense, because Nirvana is attained by abandoning afflictions and the cessation of name and form. For things that do not have horns, such as cows, it is said that they do not have them. The teacher said: If all these are not empty, there will be no arising and no destruction. Because the existence of inherent nature is constant, these are unreasonable for things whose inherent nature does not change. Therefore, from abandoning and cessation, what Nirvana do you want to attain? In this way, if your reasoning has concomitance, then what is to be established can be established.

If we concede, then because that also does not exist, therefore, the reason that asserts self-nature to exist in our position is both a non-common reason and contradictory to the meaning. The meaning of the reason should also be questioned: Is it for obtaining nirvana in name only? Or is it for obtaining it in ultimate reality? If it is said to be for name only, then it is proving what is already proven. However, in ultimate reality, we, without abandonment and without attainment, without cessation and without permanence, without cessation and without arising, that is what is called nirvana. Therefore, the reason that says that nirvana is attained by abandoning afflictions and by the cessation of name and form, that reason's meaning is not established. Furthermore, among those who speak of nirvana here, some assert that nirvana exists as a substance, while others assert that it does not exist as a substance. How both of these are unreasonable should be examined in this way. Therefore, nirvana is not a thing, otherwise it would follow that it has the nature of aging and death. Because there is no inference that proves that nirvana is a thing, and because the thing itself can be inferred, with the nature of aging and death, it would follow that nirvana has the nature of aging and death. A thing that does not have aging and death does not exist. Because if a thing does not have aging and death, then it itself is not produced, it should be understood in this way. That is not accepted, because nirvana is considered to be without aging and death, therefore it can be said that in ultimate reality, nirvana is not a thing, because it does not have aging and death, like the son of a barren woman. Therefore, in your school, there is also the same situation where the meaning of the reason is not established. Or, there is another way to refute, saying for those who assert that nirvana is a thing, if nirvana is a thing, then nirvana would become conditioned. It is not accepted that it is conditioned, this shows that the dharma of nirvana is not conditioned. A thing that is not conditioned, how can anything exist? This shows the example of the homogeneous side. Therefore, the inference is that nirvana is not a thing, because it is not conditioned, like fire in the sky.
