Those that are spoken of as form are thought of as form; those that are spoken of as formless are thought of as formless; those that are without outflows are thought of as without outflows; those that are called suffering, arising, cessation, and path are thought of as the nature of suffering, arising, cessation, and path; those that are to be abandoned by meditation are thought of as to be abandoned by meditation; those that are not to be abandoned are thought of as the nature of not to be abandoned. Therefore, if one sees the nature of many kinds of phenomena in this way, and thinks that all things are without self-nature, and therefore empty because they are themselves without self-nature, that is not feasible. Furthermore, like this: The dharmas of liberation and so on, those that are spoken of as states, the dharmas of the nature of liberation and so on, and the principle of liberation and non-liberation are also the same. Here, those that are spoken of as the state of the dharma of definite liberation are thought of as the nature of definite liberation; those that are not definite liberation are thought of as the nature of not definite liberation; those that possess the limbs of enlightenment are thought of as possessing the limbs of enlightenment; those that do not possess the limbs of enlightenment are thought of as not possessing the limbs of enlightenment; those that possess the factors of enlightenment are thought of as possessing the factors of enlightenment; those that do not possess the factors of enlightenment are thought of as not possessing the factors of enlightenment, and the rest are also the same. Therefore, if one sees the nature of the phenomena of many kinds of dharmas in this way, and thinks that all things are without self-nature, and therefore empty, that is not feasible. Furthermore, like this: If the self-nature of dharmas does not exist, then the name called "without self-nature," that name will also not exist in the same way. Because a name without a basis does not exist. If the self-nature of all dharmas does not exist, then the name "without self-nature" will also not exist in the same way. Why? Because a name without a basis does not exist. Therefore, because it is impossible, the self-nature of things exists. Because self-nature exists, all things are not empty. Therefore, all dharmas are without self-nature, and because they are themselves without self-nature, they are emp

What I say as "existent" is not reasonable. However, such is the nature of inherent existence. If it is said that this does not exist in phenomena, then phenomena are of a nature of non-existence, and it should be pointed out to what it belongs. However, if it becomes a name without a basis, that is not acceptable, so inherent existence exists, but it is not possible in all phenomena. In that case, since phenomena are without inherent existence, phenomena become emptiness, and if one thinks that it is not without a name either, then it should be said here: if that is the case, then it should be pointed out what the meaning of inherent existence belonging to phenomena is. Since it is not pointed out, therefore the thought that inherent existence exists, and that phenomena do not exist, vanishes. Furthermore, like this: Because that vase in the house, saying "does not exist" is negating existence itself. Because it is seen, therefore you here, negate the inherent existence of what exists. Here, it is negating what has meaning, not what has no meaning. For example, saying "there is no vase in the house" etc., this is negating the existing vase, not negating the non-existing vase. Similarly, saying that phenomena have no inherent existence is also negating the existing inherent existence, not negating the non-existing inherent existence, therefore it is not acceptable to say that all phenomena have no inherent existence. Furthermore, precisely because there is negation, the inherent existence of all things is thoroughly established. If that inherent existence does not exist, what will your words negate? If it does not exist, then negation is thoroughly established even without words. If inherent existence itself does not exist, then what will you negate with the statement "all things have no inherent existence"? Just like this, for what does not exist, negation is established even without language, just like fire has no coldness and water has no heat. Furthermore, like this: Children, regarding mirages, just like mistakenly grasping them as water. Similarly, you mistakenly grasp, you should negate what exists, not what does not exist. In your mind, just like children mistakenly grasp mirages as water, in order to correct this grasping of those with the nature of wise people, it is said that there is no water there, it is a mirage, similarly, for things without inherent existence, sentient beings...
