Because of grasping, form is not existent in itself. Why? Because of utterly non-grasping, form is utterly non-grasping in itself. How can something that cannot be grasped exist? Regarding this, analyze it logically: If the reasoning for this is the idea of "form," if there is an idea about form, then the term "form" will be established. Because ideas do not arise for meaningless things. Therefore, if you think that the reasoning idea has form, then it is said here: If it is said from reasoning, then the reasoning does not exist. That reasoning does not exist, it is not existent. Why? Because it arises from causes and conditions. The reasoning idea that arises from causes and conditions, therefore it does not exist. Furthermore, even if it exists, it is unreasonable to have no reasoning. If form exists, even then, it is unreasonable to have no reasoning for the existence of form. It is unreasonable for reasoning not to exist. Furthermore, if form is grasped, then the self's own nature will be grasped. How can an idea born from non-existence through conditions grasp non-existent form? If form is grasped, then what will happen to the self's own nature? It will grasp its own nature. This is what is said. That is also not seen, so it itself does not grasp that. Because its own nature is emptiness, how can an idea born from non-existence through conditions grasp non-existent form? Here it is said that the Sutra Pitaka often speaks of grasping past and future forms, therefore grasping form exists. Here it is said: When an idea arises in an instant, if it does not grasp the instant a form arises, then how will it know past and future forms? Regarding this, consider that both form and idea are momentary. When an idea arises in an instant, because it is momentary, if it does not grasp the instant a form arises, then how will it know past and future forms? Because it is impossible, it will not know. How is it clear, because it is the meaning of clarity. This reasoning is that form is extremely ungraspable. Furthermore, even if color and shape are acknowledged, form is still grasped.

That is not reasonable. Why? Because at no time do color and shape have any difference. There is no holding of difference as one. Because these two are known as form. If color and shape were to become different, then it would be reasonable to hold these two as different. But when color and shape are considered to be form, then it is not reasonable. Furthermore, eye-consciousness is not in the eye, not in form, nor in between the two. The complete conception that arises dependent on the eye and form is mistaken. If analyzed, eye-consciousness is not in the eye, nor in form, nor in between the two, then the complete conception that arises dependent on the eye and form is mistaken. Here it is said that the sense bases such as the eye exist. Their sphere of activity, such as seeing, also exists. Among them, the eye sees form, and the ear and so on are similar in their own way. Here it is said, if the eye does not see itself, then how can it see form? Therefore, the eye and form have no self-nature. The remaining aggregates are also similar to this. The eye itself is empty of self-nature, and it is also empty of other-nature. Form is also empty in the same way, and the remaining aggregates are also empty in the same way. "In the same way" means that just as form is empty of self-nature and other-nature, so too are the remaining aggregates empty of self-nature and other-nature. This is shown consistently, therefore, form is empty of self-nature and other-nature. Furthermore, because it arises dependently, it is also empty. Here, form itself is formed by taking the various arising factors as causes, and this is what is dependently arisen. That which arises dependent on something, its own nature is not established. Therefore, form is empty of its own nature. It is also empty of other-nature, and its other-nature is the eye and consciousness. The eye with consciousness is the grasper, and form is the grasped, and whatever is grasped is not the grasper. Therefore, it is also empty of other-nature. In another way, consciousness is internal, and form is what is to be used and external, then
