It is said extensively that one will not be afraid of listening. Fear is not making effort. For the Hearer Vehicle, the Blessed One taught that only the emptiness of phenomena exists. For the Great Vehicle, neither exists, because their nature is completely examined. Therefore, upon hearing, one becomes afraid upon hearing that there is no phenomenon, and one becomes alarmed upon hearing that emptiness is without substance. And at the time of thinking, since neither has substance, one becomes completely alarmed because one cannot combine or cause to combine. Furthermore, it should be understood as a category by way of the three natures of non-inherent existence. Namely, the characteristic and the ultimate non-inherent existence. Why is that? Subhuti, this supreme perfection of wisdom is spoken by the Thus-Gone One. What is the meaning of that? It is placed near the second place of shame, so this Dharma is the most important, one should be mindful. The other perfections are perfections from the principal itself. The supreme perfection of wisdom spoken by the Thus-Gone One, called Immeasurable Buddha, means that all the Buddhas have also spoken this perfection, therefore it should be called supreme. By way of being isolated by the very unbearable suffering. Furthermore, Subhuti, the Thus-Gone One's perfection of patience is spoken extensively. Regarding this, how should one know by what sign is the patience that was spoken of? What is the aspect of patience? What is the cause and antidote of patience? It should be said, how is patience, it is by individually realizing the selflessness of phenomena, and completely showing that it is so, that is the Thus-Gone One's perfection of patience, which is what he said, there is no perfection. If one should know by what sign is patience, it is that if harm is being done, it is the concept of harmful intent arising from the basis of the concept of self and so forth. This is not even the concept of the perfection of patience itself, nor is it the concept of no perfection, therefore its aspect is shown. Whatever

At that time, when the Kalinga king cut off my limbs, I had no concept of self, this was explained in detail. So, how was this endured? Enduring intense suffering, and also enduring continuous suffering, in order to fully demonstrate how this is, it was said, "When the Kalinga king cut off my limbs." Also, I clearly know that in the past five hundred lifetimes, I was a hermit named "Forbearance Speaker," the cause of forbearance is also three kinds of suffering: the suffering of samsara, the suffering of beings' wrongdoings, and the suffering of being separated from enjoyment. For this, Subhuti. Therefore, Bodhisattva Mahasattvas should completely abandon all concepts and generate the mind of unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, this is what was said. This shows the antidote to the cause of not being able to endure the suffering of samsara. Generating the mind of enlightenment also has three ways: not wanting to generate the mind of enlightenment merely because of being aware of suffering, therefore it was explained in detail, "Completely abandon all concepts." Here there are three situations: being aware of suffering, and all concepts that want to abide on form etc., and being completely exhausted by these sufferings of samsara, so that the mind does not generate the mind of enlightenment. One should generate the mind of enlightenment without being attached to form, this is the same as before. Similarly, it was said not to be attached to dharma, and also not to be attached to non-dharma. Not being attached to dharma, and also not being attached to the selflessness of dharma, not being attached to this, is precisely in order to dispel the universal discrimination of this as if it were the literal meaning, because whatever is abiding, that itself is the reason for not being attached, this was explained in detail. Furthermore, Bodhisattvas should completely give charity in order to benefit all sentient beings, this is what was said. Whatever concept of sentient beings there is, that itself is also without concept, this was explained in detail. This refers to the suffering of sentient beings' wrongdoings.

It fully demonstrates the antidote to the cause of impatience, stating that it is to give completely for the sake of all sentient beings. If that very sentient being who clings to the notion that there is an agent and an actor, "I," does not exist, then from what cause does one conceive of sentient beings and generate aversion to wrongly establishing sentient beings? Thus, it also fully demonstrates the selflessness of persons and the selflessness of phenomena. Subhuti, if it is elaborated that "the Tathagata is a speaker of truth," what does this show? It means that even by truly believing in the Tathagata, one should be patient. In this case, the speaker of truth is spoken from the perspective of the nature of conventional truth. Establishing it, the truth is spoken from the perspective of the nature of defilement and purification. That which should be defiled and that which should be purified, this is the establishment of truth. From the perspective of the nature of ultimate truth, suchness is spoken. Establishing it, suchness and the speaker of truth are spoken from the perspective of the nature of defilement and purification. Here, in order to completely abandon the manifest clinging to the nature of words as they are, the Dharma that the Tathagata has manifestly awakened to or taught has neither truth nor falsehood. There is no truth because there is no nature of words as they are. There is no falsehood because there is a nature of words that are not as they are. Subhuti, for example, a person enters the darkness, which fully demonstrates the antidote to the cause of impatience with the suffering of incomplete enjoyment. Whoever gives alms for the sake of enjoyment gives alms because they have fallen into reality. That falling is for the sake of desiring happiness and the absence of suffering. Feeling does not generate renunciation, just as a person who enters the darkness thinks, "How should I walk?" Therefore, they are only delighted in the pleasure of desire. Whoever gives alms without falling into reality is like a person with eyes who, when the sun rises after dawn, sees various forms.
