How could this contradictory statement be? If it cannot be said that everyone is not an Arhat, but rather that defilements are exhausted, then what are you thinking? Venerable Sharadvatiputra expresses his own thoughts with "like this" and so on. It is said thus: Bodhisattvas abandon desires in the lands of Hearers and Solitary Buddhas as if abandoning sources of leakage. That also means "mine is exhausted." Thus, in various ways, it is said, "Although my defilements are exhausted," meaning that one does not abide in the land of Hearers. If others do not have various doubts, why is it only the last existence who sits under the Bodhi tree and directly realizes the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, and not other Hearers, etc.? Therefore, in order to show that their doubts are unfounded, Manjushri Bodhisattva Mahasattva asked, "Sitting under the Bodhi tree," etc., meaning, is such a situation possible? To say "it is possible," Manjushri reported, "World Honored One, Bodhisattva Mahasattva is present at the Bodhi tree," etc. Why is that? It means, how could the accumulation of merit and wisdom be meaningless? In response to this, it is said: Bodhi has no concept of clinging to dharmas, discrimination, etc., whatsoever. Precisely for this reason, it is unattainable. For that reason, the nature of wisdom that is free from all elaboration is called unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Therefore, since these two are non-dual, who can make Bodhi become self-nature and Bodhi? To show the reason for the previously stated "the agent has no self-nature," it is said, "Bodhi is also unborn," etc., meaning that Bodhi as the agent is also unborn. Among them, there is no nature of the Bodhi tree that exists as an agent. Who can become the sole agent and directly realize enlightenment? Or who else can become the agent?

By what does one realize perfect enlightenment? Or to what kind of action is the realization of perfect enlightenment contradictory? By what kind of agent is enlightenment realized, and from the essence of enlightenment, there is nothing that arises or is perceived. If so, how is it called the essence of enlightenment? There is no contradiction, because it is taught in reliance on the conventional truth. Some people think, if enlightenment is like that, why is this temporarily called a Bodhisattva? For something that does not exist, no one would consider it a hero. It should be understood that this is taught by imputing to phenomena that are like illusions. Manjushri, what is the epithet of what is called enlightenment? Thus, the teaching was given. Therefore, it should be given as it is, and in accordance with the meaning of the words spoken by the Blessed One, the so-called enlightenment is the epithet of the five heinous crimes, and thus it is asked with attention to this equality. If the meaning is not understood, some people will be afraid, why is that? Thus, the question is asked. How can the collection of evil nature be acknowledged as the nature of the collection of virtues? This is its meaning. Showing its meaning is, Blessed One, as there is no such thing, those five heinous crimes are the nature of enlightenment. Whatever is the nature of enlightenment should be called that. Why? As there is no such thing, all phenomena are free from the distinctions of agent and object, etc. The reason why they are the nature of enlightenment is that enlightenment is the nature of the five heinous crimes, just like the heinous crimes, so is this. How are the phenomena of the heinous crimes shown to be the nature of non-things? If asked: If so, how to understand enlightenment? The realization of those heinous crimes and other phenomena is the nature of the agent, and the agent will give rise to the agent, if asked so. Therefore, the realization of perfect heinous crimes, etc., is taught. What is this for?

Then, if "later" refers to things that are clearly and directly perceived, such as a mother, how can they be killed? If even these do not exist, then what is the measure of the existence of mind? This is what is being considered. The answer is that all phenomena, such as arising, are not merely extremely singular direct perceptions. Therefore, these phenomena, between the Buddha and ordinary beings, cannot be fully realized by the wisdom arising from practice, cannot be seen by eye consciousness, cannot be heard by ear consciousness, cannot be known by wisdom arising from thought, and cannot be realized by consciousness other than that. The intermediate words include hearing, experiencing, and touching. The meaning is: are things that are directly perceived, such as a mother, of the nature of atoms? Or are they of the nature of having parts? Neither of these is reasonable. Because, like this, things that exist without interruption in the distance cannot be atoms, because they always have parts. In that case, a single atom is not reasonable in any way. If one does not exist, then the nature of many is also not reasonable. Therefore, there is no atom existing outside, just like a human horn that is devoid of the nature of one and many. Since atoms do not exist, things with parts also do not exist, because it is generally believed that atoms compose it. Let's put aside the extensive analysis for now. Like that, Bodhi, refers to the conclusion, like that kind of Bodhi, is the nature of all phenomena being without an object of focus, this is a concluding word. Then, why did the Blessed One himself teach that objects of focus such as form and sound have been fully enlightened and have been made directly apparent? Even so, the Blessed One set aside the matters from the complete enlightenment to the direct realization for those with pride. Placed them closely. The intermediate words include categories such as seeing and hearing. If asked: are you also a person with pride? The Tathagata is
