If one is devoted to the ground, then, therefore, the monk called the son of Śāradvatī is a word of non-differentiation, so it is said. Because this is without differentiation, in all places the essence is equal. The realm of non-differentiated Dharma is also non-existent, because its language is speech. Therefore, in emptiness, there is no difference whatsoever to those, this is what is to be shown. In order to show how there is no difference, first one begins to refute, well then, if everything is endowed with Suchness, then how can one who has entered the uninterrupted hell go to the lower realms? Those who have made aspirations for enlightenment and others, why would they go to Nirvana and the heavens? If that were the case, then one who has entered the uninterrupted hell would enter the heavens and Nirvana, because they are endowed with Suchness, just like striving for enlightenment. Or those also would not change in that way, because there is no difference, if you say. Therefore, those who possess the inconceivable, they do not go to the heavens, and so on, it is said. The inconceivable here refers to emptiness. Why is that? If you say, the thought is like this: entering into virtuous Dharma and meditating on emptiness would become meaningless, because there is no difference between having it and not having it, if you say. The inconceivable is not dwelling near going and not going, from Nirvana in between it is not dwelling near going and not going, meaning the heavens and the lower realms. Both of those are accustomed from beginningless existence, therefore the words of going and coming are possible to send and receive many times. Going to Nirvana is of the nature of completely non-degeneration, therefore there is no bringing it here. The word "between" should also include the ground etc. that obtains it. Going and not going means obtaining and not obtaining. Dwelling near means entering or completely distinguishing. The meaning is this: if one meditates on this emptiness, then a person, like emptiness, will become a cause for benefiting others. Therefore, that will not be reversed.

Through habitual practice, virtue will increase, and conversely, it will be obscured. Manifestation and non-manifestation also enable the attainment of benefit and non-benefit. Mere existence does not bring about benefit and non-benefit, so there will be no fault as previously stated. After that, it is taught to dispel the doubts of those who uphold the Vinaya and those who uphold the Matrika. Here is the doubt of those who are devoted to the meaning of the Vinaya: If there is no diversity, then why are there said to be four kinds of monks who abide in downfall and those who do not fall? In this regard, it is said here for the time being that those sons of the Venerable Sharadvatiputra who abide in the four roots of downfall, and so on. By mentioning the root of downfall, it also indicates the Sanghavasesa. By mentioning abiding in the four, it also indicates those who do not abide. Those who also abide in the rootless, that is, those who abide in the Dharmadhatu, which is a synonym. Because there is no initial root here, the rootless is the Dharmadhatu. The Dharma-nature is always present. Abiding in it is becoming its nature, because all dharmas are the nature of Suchness. If someone distorts the meaning of the phrase "root and abiding in the rootless" and refutes it, why is that? If that is the case, how can it not be extremely contradictory to the Vinaya? Expressing the meaning of the intention is: For the sons of the Venerable Sharadvatiputra, there is no root or apex for the unborn. The unborn is the Dharmadhatu. The apexless is the end. Why say that? Since merely saying "rootless" alone has already clarified the meaning of the present situation, why say it? Because by saying the end, it is to clarify the beginning. If it were not so, merely saying the root, then the appearance of the root would only be a fleeting fame and would not be helpful to the present situation. Saying there is no end is to indicate the Dharmadhatu by another name. Like this, if that is the case, then the Dharmadhatu of all is eternal.

It is so. Therefore, the so-called "rootless Bhikshu" is another name for the non-abiding Bhikshu. The so-called "rootless" means being separated from the arising of roots. The so-called "non-abiding" means not abiding in self-grasping, etc., up to the very nature of emptiness. If those who uphold the Vinaya and those who attack it engage in disputes and quarrels over transgressions, they are disputatious Bhikshus; if they are separated from these, and the mind creates gaps, and there is no place of offering in the world, then how can they be established? Therefore, the so-called "arising of disputes" is another name for "superimposition." The so-called "superimposition" means superimposing on what is grasped, etc. Superimposition is only done on the Dharmadhatu. Even if there are various appearances arising separately, and they are established as disputes, etc., nevertheless, everything does not deviate from the nature of mind, which is non-dual; this is the meaning of summarizing. If one practices in the Dharmadhatu of superimposition, then one becomes a place of giving in the world; practicing in it is knowing as it is. Practice is realization. Therefore, because it is a place for accumulating immeasurable merit, it is indeed a worthy place of offering. In some texts, it is said that one practices by superimposing on faults. Among them, the so-called "fault" refers to transgressions, etc. On which Dharmadhatu is it superimposed? Then, many words are made about it. Venerable Sharadvatiputra, if one takes the meaning of the words "practicing in superimposition," then practicing in superimposition, or practicing in superimposition on disputes, is a place of offering. Why is that? It is thinking: How can an impure continuum become a place of offering? Showing it briefly by distinguishing it is like this: Because of that superimposition on the equal one. The so-called equal, similar, all-pervading one, superimposing on that is done on the Dharmadhatu. Superimposing on this is connected as before.
