Thus it was taught: In order to completely transcend all knowledge and expression, for the sake of enlightenment, I thus instruct. If that is not their realm of activity, then what need is there to mention those who are beginners and abide at the edge of things? Enlightenment itself is completely beyond the realm of all knowledge and expression for them. In order to initiate the question, it is said, "Why is that?" If it is not the realm of knowledge and words, then how did the Bhagavan manifest and teach this? This is the meaning of the question. Like this, enlightenment is not known by anyone, up to the reason that it has not been taught. Between distinguishing and teaching, in the manner of the previously taught, because there is no nature of self that grasps the agent, it is not included in this. Among these, not known by anyone is the general aspect. Not fully awakened by anyone is the individual nature. Not seen is by the eye's consciousness. Not heard is by the ear's consciousness. Not distinguishing and not knowing separately should also be said, because the two are for approximately indicating. Or, if these two distant realms are not to be grasped for a while, then what need is there to mention others? In order to know this, the two are taught. Or, the previous two words are spoken from the perspective of distinguishing and knowing separately. Not remembered is by the knowledge of memory that has previously been experienced. Why is it from not knowing separately up to not remembering? Like this, not produced, for if it were produced, then immediately grasping it would be possible. How is it not remembered? It is without obstruction, because the realm of memory is the past. Not spoken is by oneself. Not taught is at the time of questioning. If that is so, if enlightenment is internal, then what need is there to strive to obtain it? "How much enlightenment" is said like this, how much enlightenment is said like this, the synonym for the word enlightenment, that which accomplishes the benefit of oneself and others, that is how it is. This indicates that it is supreme.

Moreover, since it is the most excellent of all perfections and the nature of all, therefore, enlightenment also exists. In that case, since enlightenment is the nature of an agent, and because it depends on an agent, it follows that an agent exists. Since the agent also engages in action, there will also be an action to be enlightened. If that is the case, then the statement "there is nothing to be fully enlightened by enlightenment" would contradict all subsequent teachings. If you ask, it is said that enlightenment is not a real entity either, which is the definition of the word 'agent.' Why is that? If you ask, if there is no agent, then how can it be called enlightenment? Like this, enlightenment, realization, and experiencing reality are different names. If you ask, these are all conventionally stated, not ultimately true. To show this, it is said, "there is nothing to be fully enlightened by enlightenment," because there is no craving for grasping onto the nature of others. If you say, then can the agent be established in relation to grasping onto oneself? To show that this is also not the case, it is said, "enlightenment is not fully enlightened by enlightenment," because for self-awareness, the entity of action, agent, and actor cannot be established as one, as it is unreasonable to have three entities in one. Hasn't the opponent refuted that enlightenment is the nature of an agent? If the nature of the agent is not refuted, then how can it be refuted by saying "there is nothing to be fully enlightened by enlightenment" and so on? The nature of the agent does not exist in enlightenment, and it does not exist in the one who attains enlightenment or in the self. This is the reason why it should be refuted, because it is to be refuted. The answer is yes, but the particular state of the agent itself has become the nature, which is called the agent, and it is not different from that, because it would be a fault of not being the nature of the agent. To show that the nature of the agent does not exist in a separate place, it is said, "there is nothing to be fully enlightened by enlightenment" and so on. That's it.
