"You are the abiding nature" means that birth and cessation are eliminated. Unmixed means not mixed with others. What is that? Like this, this realm is what realm. In that inconceivable realm, from the difference of the hearers to the difference of the separate beings, nothing can be found. The word "between" includes the self-awakened ones and so on. The difference of the separate beings cannot be found. If they do not understand, then what else is there to be tamed? This is the remaining part. In order to show the method of doing those deeds by what means, (the Buddha said) "Manjushri, do you not think that the Tathagata is the supreme field of merit?". The so-called "Tathagata field of merit" is the field, support, and basis for the arising and abiding of merit, the merit that generates joy, and even if one strives to practice for the benefit of sentient beings as much as the dust of the Buddha fields in the ten directions, it is inexhaustible, therefore it is unsurpassed, because there is nothing more excellent than this. When asked if this was the case, the answer was "Bhagavan, because there is no substance," because it is free from attachment to substance, therefore the Tathagata is a field of merit. Just because of knowing that there is no substance, that is the unsurpassed field of merit, because it is the nature of knowing emptiness. It is said: The merit of the Bodhicitta and the merit of upholding the Dharma, compared to those who diligently practice emptiness, are not even one-sixteenth. Being filled with qualities, and also not being filled with faults, therefore it is a sacred field. Here, the field of merit is a sacred field because it is not filled with qualities and faults. This is because the field of merit has already understood the qualities and faults before they arise. That field is neither full nor not full, because it is considered as such a substance, so it should be known as unsurpassed. In order to clarify that point, the Bhagavan again said, "Bhagavan, in that, any Dharma," and so on. The "in that" refers to the desired field. No Dharma can be truly accomplished.

The term "transformation" means knowing non-arising. The term "will not decay" means knowing cessation, which has been explained before. Thus, the statement "that is a field of merit" is a conclusion that eliminates other possibilities. Among the statements such as "sowing seeds," the term "that" refers to the characteristics of the field that have already been explained. The word "also" serves to gather. Seeds are the root of virtue. Sowing is cultivating well, and it is said to be sowing because it becomes an interval with the mind in the manner of desiring such a nature. The statement "neither increases nor decreases" shows non-arising. To clarify it, the question "Manjushri, from what did you begin?" and so on was asked. As a reason, the Blessed One said, "Like this, that field is inconceivable," and so on. Inconceivable means there is no place for thought, just as explained before. If it is not like that, then it is not a field of merit. It is taught that generating joy there will lead to obtaining the actual object itself, because the dharma of the seed does not change from the fruit. Then, regarding the statement "at that time, by the power of the Buddha," and so on, the term "then" means immediately after. The term "at that time, field" refers to the time when it is shown as a Buddha-field. The term "by the power of the Buddha" refers to the blessing of the Blessed One, which is also shown as great in nature in order to lead the disciples to enter this Dharma. Dividing into six ways is the difference in actions, that is, the east is high and the west is low, this is one. The west is high and the east is low, this is two. Similarly, the south and north are two each. The center and the edge are two each, totaling six. When "six thousand monks" and so on appear, when any retinue gathers. The statement "a thousand complete monks" and so on, know that those are in terms of Arhats. Regarding "without taking, from the outflows," there are four types of outflows, namely, the outflow of desire, the outflow of existence, the outflow of ignorance, and the outflow of views.
