Therefore, because the great elephant is in accordance with the Dharma, the great elephant refers to the Bhagavan or the knower. To urge it on is to place it on the reins of scrutiny. To refute this is to generate interest in the meaning to be explained below, and to generate respect and listening, etc. Therefore, in order to understand the essence of the Buddha, to examine, that is, the word "Manjushri Buddha," what word is it a synonym for? That is, what is the synonym for what is to be said? As an answer to the question, the venerable Sharadvatiputra said, "The word 'I,' what word is it a synonym for?" To this, he said, "The word 'I' is a synonym for the unborn word." The entity of "I" does not exist. Like this, even a little of the entity of "I" does not exist, and even if it does not exist, it is completely imputed. Venerable Sharadvatiputra, just like that, etc., by showing that "I" is the same as this, to show the special reason. Again, like this, the word Buddha is, etc. Like this, this "like this" summarizes in another way that the word Buddha is without entity. And, the word "again," because it is the meaning of the word "another way." The basis refers to things. Like this, effort and things, and the basis and place and complete protection are all words for basis. "A synonym for a word without basis" refers to a synonym for a word without things. Like this, saying the word "Buddha" is not a statement referring to things. Here, as a reason, the word Buddha is difficult to understand with language, etc. Like this, it is difficult and not easy to understand and comprehend with language or speech, and it cannot be shown to others, up to the point of not being able to show it. The intention here is this: The conceptualization that completely arises from language, and the consciousness of the ear that perceives language and its appearance, and the conceptualization that arises later, these four are merely self-awareness, because that is all. From anything anywhere other than oneself

There is no connection whatsoever. Therefore, if language cannot understand contradictions, then why is it easy to understand "Buddha" through language? "Buddha" is just an approximation, as not all dharmas can be easily understood through language. For children with minds turned away from the true nature of things, it is merely a matter of falsely priding themselves on understanding sounds and meanings, and the characteristics of understanding, just as those with cataracts see two moons and think they understand and can understand the two moons. I have already extensively established this point from the accomplishment of the inexpressible, so I will not elaborate further here for fear of prolixity. Venerable Sharadvatiputra, even though language is clear and very distinct in all lineages, it is difficult to ascertain and analyze "this is language," because it is impossible, because it has no connection with language that belongs to the nature of conceptualization, and because what is distinct is not the cause of understanding. What need is there to mention "Buddha"? This statement shows that the word "Buddha" is very distant and different from language, because it is a personal awareness and therefore not the object of others. Here, there are other arguments as well, Venerable Sharadvatiputra, what is the epithet of the word "Buddha"? etc. Anything that is not truly established cannot arise from it if that cause is absent. Therefore, it is unborn, because anything that has not come from anywhere cannot arise like a Gandharva city. If it is not unborn, how can it cease? Because birth precedes cessation. What is said to be incompatible with any dharma refers to any one of birth, duration, increase, change, decay, and destruction, or that which is incompatible and unrelated to aggregation, can be considered its epithet. Previously, it was shown that there is no thing in language. Now, in order to show that there is no language in meaning, there is nothing here that is undifferentiated from language.

It is said that the one without words is called a monk. For this Buddha, the Bhagavan, there is no distinction in speaking words that can realize and understand the meaning through these words. There is no distinction of words, and there is not even a slight general characteristic of words. Therefore, it is said to be without words. Since there is no self-characteristic or common characteristic of words in this, the Bhagavan cannot be reached by words, and the one who cannot be spoken of is called a Buddha, which is a false name, a false establishment. This section should be concluded. What is this section? It is seeing the Tathagata. Therefore, it is said that the son of the monk Sharadvati wants to seek the Tathagata, and wants to seek and follow with seeing, remembering, and speaking, so he should seek me. The meaning will be clarified later. What is the connection between these two? Why is it said like this? Therefore, the son of the monk Sharadvati, the so-called self, is the false name of the Buddha, and so on. I am like a flower in the sky, fundamentally non-existent, but the Buddha, the Bhagavan, is not like that. If you ask how I am considered the false name of the Buddha? Therefore, it is said that just as I am extremely empty and cannot be seen, so too is the Buddha extremely empty and cannot be seen. This shows that because I am non-existent, I am extremely invisible. Because the Buddha is unborn, he is not truly existent, invisible, and unspeakable. Like me, it is the cause of speech. Whatever dharma, whatever speech cannot reach, whatever cannot be spoken, so too the Buddha, whatever dharma, whatever speech cannot reach. To conclude that both the realm of speech and the realm of knowledge are not, therefore, whatever is unspoken and unproclaimed is called Buddha. To show that it is not the realm of knowledge, it is said that the basic false name of I is not easy to know, and so on.
